Surgery tomorrow & the most amazing scents are happening downstairs!

Recommended Posts

Oh my! Anyone else struggling/starving on this lovely Easter Day? Everyone is downstairs feasting & I'm hiding upstairs pretending to have a headache cause the family doesn't know about surgery tomorrow. So my question is...with just the right amount of butter could mashed potatoes be considered a liquid? ?? (J/k, kinda)

Totally. We went to Red Lobster and I ordered gumbo so I could eat the broth only. No cheddar bay biscuits.

Everyone was asking if I wasn't hungry.

And of course you replied no, I'm not hungry ;). I guess I should be happy that I have another room to hide in as I could not stay away from cheddar bay biscuits!

I am also having my surgery tomorrow and have been on the liquids for two days. I basically have stayed away from everyone (they deserve to live) and been in my room waiting. I detest chicken broth and really have not found much else that is clear except Water, weak green tea and white grape juice. I finally took something to sleep about 10 minutes ago and counting down until I can fall asleep. Alarm set, bag packed and I am ready to roll in the morning at 5 am. I just want the hunger pains to stop.

The subject of who to tell!!! I feel like I don't want to tell people cause I don't want to have to talk them into why this is a good option for me. I don't want criticism. It's like when I finally picked a name for my kids before they were born. I put a lot of thought into their name. Someone would ask what are u gonna name baby if it's a girl. I would tell them. And they would wrinkle up nose and say ohhh I don't know if I like it. Really at this point keep your comments to yourself!

Anyway sorry- guess I just needed to say that! Ha

Good luck to all your amazing people who are scheduled tomorrow. Please let us know how u are doing! I will be checking up on u all.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
