Concerned_daughter 0 Posted April 20, 2014 My mother had her gastric sleeve surgery about three weeks ago- and she has been miserable ever since. Her weight was in the low 200lbs, she needed the surgery to reset her hormones, she dropped about 24 LBs within the first week- but she couldn't eat or drink anything. She continuously threw up all of her food. After being hospitalized again, and having ivs at home, she has gained back all that weight and discovered her opening is too small and only trickles can reach her stomach. She still has ivs and she still can not eat and she has awful heartburn. She is miserable and she feels that the surgery was a huge mistake. She has to wait to have her stomach expanded again. Does anyone have any experience with this, or can anyone shed some light and give any tips for getting through this?
Concerned_daughter 0 Posted April 20, 2014 The heartburn medication prescribed to her has not helped her at all and she can not hold down any food or drink. She is following all of the rules for her diet and everything. We don't know what else to do.
swimbikerun 1,046 Posted April 20, 2014 Where is her doctor in all this? Does he have experience with these issues? Question for you - is she on TPN? A PICC line or something?
HHHappy 225 Posted April 20, 2014 What is her doctor saying? I'm sorry she is having so much trouble. I can't offer help/advice because I haven't had any issues. I do know of a few people who had to switch to RNY to stop severe heartburn. Hope it turns around for her soon!

She's been talking to her dr. And he says he has never seen anything so severe, but she has to wait enough time after the original surgery before he can do the endoscopy expansion. She has a PICC line- she attaches the bag every night.

Thank you, he is saying that he has never seen any post op complications so severe, and we're now just waiting to take the next step. I'll look into the RNY. Thank you for your concern, I hope it turns around soon too.
