Bathing suits. Aaarrgghh!

Recommended Posts

Down 45 pounds but it's NO easier finding a bathing suit that fits. My old ones are old and stretched out, and nobody makes a suit for an apple shape like me that doesn't look like crap. I'm so aggravated. I'm going on vacation in a month, and I have an Aqua Zumba class now every week. It's so depressing. Trying them on in the store is bad enough - I can't imagine attempting to find one online. Nothing. Fits. This. Body.

That is all. Carry on.

I love lands end suits at Sears, not cheap but very well made. And they make a fit for every body type.

Have you tried Bare Necessities? It's an online store. Their bathing suits are pricey BUT really good for plus sizes. I have bought a few from there as I also buy my bras.

I LOVE the Miraclesuit swimwear! I know they sell them at Lane Bryant and Nordstrom and Macy's. Those swimsuits are thicker and really suck you in!

Hey JustWatchMe - congratulations on your weight loss! First of all, know that any swimsuit will look better on you than it did 45 pounds ago. Nice going!

Secondly, consider an alternative that I see more and more among fit and sporty women. I got a great looking swim top that hangs down to my hips (Target, underwire for support AND inner panel to control with outer panel to hang down). Then I bought some sport-shorts that are just above the knee to compliment the color (black pants and top is blue with a bit of black in it). They stay put well, so no tugging ro creeping, and have coverage in those less-than-cute parts of my thighs. I feel so much more at ease in this and less whale-like since I'm not worrying about as much jiggling or coverage or even sunburned thighs. Worth a thought maybe. I'll likely do that even when i lose weight, since i'll have saggy-skin-but-thinner-thighs then - LOL!

I've lost 77 lbs and my bathing suit problem is the BOOBS! I'll find a suit that fits perfectly but the boobs are just sad. I found a good suit with great boob control, a tankini, top has a full on underwire bra, just wish it was a tad bit longer. after trying on about 50 different suits from every store in town, I found this one for $15 at TJ Max!

I noticed the swim-shirt trend while shopping a few weeks ago. Lands End has swim shirts that look pretty nice. Seems like a good option when snorkeling, for cool-weather swimming, or for sun protection at the beach (I get a terrible itchy rash from sun exposure that can last two weeks).

I'm an apple, too, and have trouble with the leg holes on most swimsuits. Woman Within (online) has one that looks like a loose tan top with a skirt, but there are shorts underneath instead of the usual swim bottoms. it's the only suit I've ever found that leaves me feeling comfortable, and i wear it to Water classes every week.

Good luck with your search!

I found one! Online, at Blair. It came today, it FITS, it's not expensive, and it looks lovely on. I am promptly ordering another one a size down in the other color so I have something for the end of summer (see what I did there?).

Here's the link:

Don't I look adorable in it? Har!

Oh my gosh. You are not kidding about the skirts floating. I made it through this Aqua Zumba class but I had to laugh with my friend each time our skirts were floating to the surface. You're right. The next time I will have a different style of suit for exercise!

H2Owear has a lot of suits, unitards, and separate and all the goodies. Spendy. But the good ones hold everything in. Also wear a sports bra underneath.

I absolutely love Sorella Swim. Expensive but I just love their suits. I also love Miracle Suits. I'm pear shaped but they have a big selection. I always buy online, so that's a drawback if you really feel you need to try on. Lands End have good ones too. I'm so excited.... Down 60 pounds and went from size 24 to 18 in swim suit. My legs are huge so I'm certain I'd never fit into size 18 pants but it's still encouraging! Maybe next year I'll get to try on suits in a store! I'd love to be a 12 next summer! Now, what to do about all the skin????? I need a wet suit. Lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
