Hi debjones,

When are you going to be sleeved, or have you had your op already? I'm from mandurah.

I had my surgery on 17 March 2014 at The Mount Hospital. Gordon Padavan did my sleeve. Best thing I have done. I weighed 128 kg and a BMI 51 the day of my op, I weighed myself today and weigh 115 kg.

Hey, great job!

I'm being sleeved by Padovan at The Mount on the 20th. It's reassuring to hear from somebody else who has gone through the surgery with him, and come out on the other side ok!

How about post op Deb? No nasty surprises? How long did you stay in hospital?

I saw Padovan today and was weighed I have lost 15 kg since my op 7 weeks ago. He said the weight lose will go down to a kg a week and I go back and see him in 3 months and he said I should be under 100 kg. good luck for the 20th will be thinking of you.

I am going through the same now that I'm on full solids. The weight loss has slowed to about .5-1kg per week. Which is not anything to write home about but still great for me.. Also I like the idea of the weight falling off gradually rather than the drastic loss caused by Roux En Y gastric bypass coz it's less likely to draw the wrong kind of attention from people you don't want to share your sleeve journey with. I'm sure there are many out there who think this option is the lazy way out who don't appreciate how hard this whole process is and also the risks involved... I am quite happy to shed 1Kg per fortnight and be at my goal weight by the end of the year with no silly questions asked and not falling under scrutiny :)

I'm not telling anybody about my op. Just me and my partner know. It's probably healthier to lose it slowly, but I get what your saying. I just hope I don't get too jaded and impatient. I've done that in the past....lost weight slowly and just got fed up because it was taking too long. I guess the sleeve will stop me from over eating, and I just have to watch my food choices.

If I fail I will never forgive myself :(

Same here only me and my husband know ! I told everyone else I had oesophagul reflux surgery to explain my hospital stay and the need for a liquid diet etc. My surgeon does both so any busy bodies who googled him based on my medical certificate would have found he does that as well:)

I'm not on any preop diet at all. Just have to drink liquids only on Monday and that's it! I'm just lucky I guess.

Still switching between nervous and excited, and right now I'm excited. Thinking of having fish and chips for dinner and calling it my last supper!

How are you feeling?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
