I have been wondering this too! I feel like i had gotten most of it out and then today on day 4 it rears it ugly head again with the shoulder pain. I have been talking gas x and Miralax which has caused me to pass gas and burp (althOugh I did start to burp as soon as i woke up in recovery) have you tried either of those?

I am 12 days post op. I also had gas in my right shoulder. My best advice is to walk, walk walk!!! It does go away, hang in there! It gets better!

how long did Gas last.

@@butterfly2014

it depends - usually it lasts me a week :)

then i go to the pump and buy more :D

seriously, i am sorry you are going through this - pain in your shoulder too!!!! :(

hope the situation gets better sooner than later :)

i was amongst the lucky ones that had no prob with recovery - and NO gas issues

hope this issue "passes" <_<

others might know better - but the answer to your question varies amongst all

i "think" maybe one week - two weeks

since you didn't say otherwise, hopefully no other problems

good luck for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life :)

I am 3 days post op and I was having some serious gas pains, too and I walked more than anyone that was in the hospital with me. I tried the heating pad, warm Decaf rea with one splenda (just cannot do totally unsweet) and nothing seemed to help. So then to add variety to my clear liquid diet (that I'll be on for 2 weeks post op) I tried 2 oz of apple juice mixed with 2 oz of Water. It tasted delicious and was a good break from broth and then it made me go #2. Each time I go potty I sit there for a minute and a ton of gas comes out. So long story longer, apple juice worked for me....

Also, one of my friends that had the surgery over a year ago said that she thinks I was drinking too much and too fast. I went back through my paperwork and it said 1 oz every 15 minutes and doing it that way you shouldn't drink more than 4 oz per hour (and you still can get in 64 oz per day). I felt like I was swallowing air each time I sipped so I think she was right. I slowed down and the gas was much better today.

Hope this wasn't TMI, but if it helps you then I will share..

Now the apple juice was it regular apple juice?

I actually bought the gerber baby juice since it's 100% juice and the containers are so small...but they told me unsweetened 100% juice was the kind to get. But not to drink more than 4 oz a day. And you dilute it with half juice half Water.

And they specificially said don't use a straw because you end up taking in more air when you drink from a straw (not sure how) but my paperwork specifically says "no straws" on the no no list.

Yup, no straws! It puts too much air in your "pouch" and causes gas and stretches your new tummy. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
