I have been low thyroid for over 20 years. I chose WLS because my weight would not come off despite taking medication for hypothyroid.

I just had my annual labs and though my doc lowered my dose (on the presumption that weight loss required the decreased dose) my T4 and Free T4 were low so I will be going back on my previous dose of thyroid medication. I am hoping this will help with the stall I have been dealing with since the medication was lowered.

It looks like us Hypo's lose weight at a slower rate then normal. This is good to know so that I don't get frustrated. Thanks,

you all have been a big help.

Surgery will work for you just at a slower rate

At this point I've lost 43 lbs and lots of body fat looks like I lost 60 lbs

I'm 5'8 Sw 283 cw 235

I am diabetic on one med now

And only levothyroxine

Hopefully eventually I will be off my diabetes meds soon!

I'm happy with my progress so far!

Yes to both your questions. As others have mentioned, I think we lose it very slow. Over the last 9 months, I've averaged 2 lbs a week and I guess that's so much better than what I was able to do without the sleeve (Try +2 lbs a week lol!) that I'm grateful.

My dosage for levothryoxin has also reduced over time btw. I've gone from 175 mcg to 100 mcg now and I suspect it could come down a little more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
