Pre-op diet help

Recommended Posts

My surgery in on the 19th and this pre-op diet is a struggle. I do the shake for Breakfast and lunch. For dinner, I have approx. 3-4 oz of chicken and 1/2 cup-1 cup of raw vegetables. For a Snacks, I could only have lite yogurt (I hate it, so I don't eat it) and 10 baby carrots.

I went through my pantry yesterday and threw out just about everything to keep from being tempted to eating it. And it really does not help when I am at work and people are grilling outside.

I started this last Friday (7th) and I have not lost 1 pound. What can I do to keep my mind focused? :help:

Thanks

Girl I am right there with you. I can't eat anyhing. 4 Slim Fasts a day and Water. I did break down and ate some low fat cream Soup for dinner. I felt like my belly was growing to my back bone.

I keep looking at it like this is a rough time but hopefully the last time I will ever have to endure a diet. I will be banded this Friday.

Good Luck!

Wow, feel kinda lucky in a sense. I can have 9-11 oz protein.. low fat Protein that is white chicken meat, low fat fish, ff cottage cheese, ff cheese, 2 servings of fruit and 2 plus servings of low carb veggies. I thought I was starving but I think the shakes would make me feel more hungry! Way to go all of us April bandsters.... keep up the good work we can do it...we are winners!!!

I was actually thinking that thought through with DH also, and I think if I had to do shakes three times a day I would go MAD!!! Maybe for three days I could do it BUT not two weeks. My surgeon is linked with my dietician as well as the exercise physiologist. Its a complete group of people there to help you but they are all working together. Which I like.

Areellady's diet does make sense than mine. I called the Nutritionist to see if I could change it up and she said “No.” I guess what is frustrating to me is the fact that I have only lost 1.5lbs since being it since 4/7 :phanvan

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
