Darthkittenx 3 Posted April 18, 2014 Hey everyone, I just had on surgery this past Monday the 14th and I have been experiencing a lot of fatigue and random palpitations at times or maybe it's just my fatigue making me panic. Anyone else gone through this during their post op period?
mamafine23 101 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) It's normal... Your body went through major surgery and you'll probably sleep a lot ....I was exhausted the first 3 months ....just make sure to get all your Vitamins and Protein and the palpitations are normal as well... It gets worse before it gets better but worth it Edited April 18, 2014 by mamafine23
BandedBrunette481 310 Posted April 18, 2014 I felt kind of the same way! I think it was a combination of fatigue from not eating, surgery, and dehydration. Just try and stay hydrated and rest up. If you feel out of sorts or you're getting worse, be sure to contact your doctor for medical advice! I called practically in tears on my second day post-op and the nurse I spoke to was very kind and reassuring. It'll help ease your mind if nothing else. Best of luck to you! Darthkittenx 3 Posted April 18, 2014 Thank you so much for this kind of feedback this even eases my mind. Thinking of it now it could be due to not drinking as much since I'm getting so tired of the liquid diet. Hopefully by next week on my appointment I can touch some purée stuff x.x
relief57 53 Posted April 19, 2014 Also keep in mind that your body had a lot drugs pumped into it from surgery and if you're still taking pain meds that could cause you to not feel yourself. Ourn bodie will detox from the surgery meds, pain meds and not to mention all the crap we filled ourselves up with pre op. But as a rule of thumb stay in close contact with you surgeon or someone from his office. My surgeon sent me an email asking for an update and has continued to do so for the past week. MichiganChic 3,262 Posted April 19, 2014 It's normal to feel pretty rough for a few days, but I would report palpitations to your doc. Part of the weight we lose in the first few days/weeks is Water, so that can contribute to the feeling of fatigue (in addition to the fact that you just had major surgery!). Make sure you are getting in your recommended amounts of Fluid - it's pretty common to get dehydrated, which can lead to the symptoms you are describing. Good luck! Darthkittenx 3 Posted April 19, 2014 Thank you so much for the feedback, I do have another question if anyone is able to answer; has anyone also experience pain on the larger cut where they take out the stomach? I get tremendous pain in that area when I'm going to get up. Surely it goes away when I move around but I keep wondering how much longer will this last? It literally take so much of my energy and even last night I was sweating from how much I was breathing and trying to keep myself calm and moving.
SandyM 1,956 Posted April 19, 2014 Very likely dehydration. I understand your tired of liquids. But, keep something going in constantly. You'll feel better soon.
Terribj 208 Posted April 19, 2014 I too had extreme pain in the larger incision - i still have some after 4 weeks if I bend or move funny. Regarding your palpitations - remember that blood is thicker when you are dehydrated and your heart has to work harder to pump that thicker blood - keep up your fluids for sure.
