OK so a week ago I got my gallbladder out. In an hour I am seeing the Dr. For my first follow up. I was told to leave the dressing on and if I wanted to shower to wrap it up in saran wrap and tape it off so it doesn't get wet. Isn't a week a long time for one bandage? Hoping it's not infected or that is healing properly. Here's crossing my fingers. Guess they know best. I'll know in an hour or so.

Hi,

I had two dressings. The lower one where they removed my excess stomach stayed on for almost a week and no covering was required to Water proof it. The upper one is where I had my drainage tube for the anti bacterial Fluid that was inside my ab cavity and I had to change that one every day and Water proof it. It was a pain in the arse but I did it daily.

I'd say you really need a medical professional to explain to you why your dressing can stay on. Maybe it was like my lower one just not water proof. I was wondering why they couldn't just do the top like the bottom but the top was a hole and the bottom was a stitch.

Best of luck and hope you get an answer soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
