I don't know what got into me. I've been great on my pre op diet, down 19 pounds. I'm five days from surgery and went out last night and had two Manhattans and a handful of french fries someone had ordered for the table. I'm back on track again today, but someone tell me I didn't do any irreparable harm.... No more going out with the girls for a long time. My head is throbbing!

If you're 5 days out, I don't think it's gonna affect anything. My doctor only requires Clear liquids the day before.

It's a topic that comes up a lot here... how different pre-op diets are. My doc says that for his patients with a BMI 45 and up, he requires a week or two of special pre-op diet to shrink the liver. But, he doesn't require that for those under 45 because it weakens the body a lot and he wants patients coming in to surgery as healthy as possible. It's a balance of risk/benefit.

Best wishes and hang in there!

Water, lots and lots of water! It'll flush the alcohol and help you feel better, once you stop feeling waterlogged anyway. I'm in preop diet too, and am finding I do better if I think of this as my "early surgery mode of eating," not a diet that is separate and "pre". Surgery. It's all a head thing, but then I never much ate because of stomache hunger - mostly head stuff; Family celebration, noshing/drinking with the girls, treating myself after hard day, etc.

Also I'll bet that this won't affect your surgery at all--lots of people have less requirements. Just smile at the memory of a fun night out with friends and remind yourself no more imbibing like that until surgery is well past! If they know about it, do a spa evening together next time--mani-pedis, facials, moisturizers, and everyone brings their favorite mineral water! Party on!

Shit, I went on a food bender the weekend before my surgery. I felt like I was heading to rehab and wanted to get high one last time. I'm not recommending this, just letting you know that I suffered no ill effects and the surgeon never knew.

I did the same & I was fine. I think the pre op diets more to get your mind ready for post op. Just stick to the suggested diet from now on and all will go well I'm sure. X

Im on my pre op "diet" as well i have 3 more days till surgery, and I know how hard it is. I just keep telling myself that its not worth it, because it could potentially put off surgery, and thats not an option for me. And it really help for some strange reason, but today is hard! Im currently sitting in my in laws living room while they all eat Easter dinner. Good luck to you love your going to do great :)

After my pre-op I didn't see the dr again until right before they knocked me out. At they point they're not gonna cancel the surgery. I had even put on several pounds. I doubt the surgeon even checked my weight. He had like four procedures that day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
