Having trouble sleeping Day 5 post op

Recommended Posts

This is DAY 5 post op and I have had 4 nights since the sleeve. Have anyone else experiences lack of sleep. This has been the 2nd night that I wake up at 3 am and I'm up until 7 or 8 am. What wakes me up is my lower back pain which then keeps me awake. Today, I took a tylenol which I cut into fourths and still hurts. Currently, on the couch not sleepy at all. Any suggestions???/

I had a little of that in my first week post surgery. Like you described, I'd wake up early morning unable to get back to sleep. I bought children's dissolvable Tylenol, much easier than crumbled tabs. My insomnia got better quickly. Occasionally, I wake with a burning esophagus. Sometimes I reach for a wedge pillow, I also will take a small sip of Mylanta (CVS generic) just to coat my throat.

I have 2 herniated disks so the back pain for me was horrible. I did not need to take the morphine at the hospital because they put toradol in my IV. sleeping on my back was horrible and I can honestly say the back pain was worst than the stomach pain I took the meds they gave me at home just because of the back pain. I bought a body pillow and around the 5th day I started trying to sleep on my side and this worked a little I also took my meds before bed time not so much during the day. The body pillow helped a lot I strongly recommended.

Thank you for helping me and responding to my message. Luckily, I was able to sleep better last night. Hopefully the rest of the nights are the same.

I had a lot of trouble sleeping in the beginning. I think it's the lower/lack of calories. I had a hard time falling asleep and I would wake up all throughout the night, something that had been a problem for me all throughout my teenage and young adult years (during which time I was at my lowest weights of between 140 - 160lbs). After a few weeks, I was able to sleep again without the use of sleeping pills.

I hate sleeping on my back, so I began sleeping on my side with a pillow to support me.

Now the main issue I have is that because I am thinner, I don't have as much padding on my body, so sometimes when I am on my side, it feels like my hipbones are poking into the mattress. It's a bizarre sensation that feels like a cross between having my funny bone hit and hurting/aching.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
