Went for my first fill

Recommended Posts

I went to the Dr on the 16th for my first fill. Had 1cc in the band and he added another 1.2cc. Doing ok with it, can't really tell a difference. He does want me on a liquid diet for a week though, yuck!!!! Clear liquid for 2 days which is over with then a full liquid diet for 5 more days. Have only lost 17lbs since Feb 21st.

The fill hurt more than what I thought it would be, but since I still have sores on my tummy where the needle had to go that could be the reason why.

Hi Verna, sounds like you're on your way! Sometimes a fill doesn't "take" immediately -- it may settle in and you'll feel it when you are back eating again. Then you'll get used to that and know whether you need another or not. My doctor is of the small frequent fills school of thought and it took me six to get to where I am now, happily in the green zone and shedding. I think you're right about the bruising and pain. I was bruised for a long time and every time I got a fill I bruised again but once I was really healed from the surgery it didn't hurt. Good luck to you, and 17 pounds in two months is fantastic.

I go back once a month to see if I need a fill or not I do this for a year. Surgery was in Feb. I am just happy to be losing and don't really want to lose fast Would like to do it slowly to try and get my skin back in shape.

@@verna2197 Hi Verna,

Bandista is right it can take up to two weeks for a fill to fully settle into the band. I don't know the mechanics of why this is, but I can tell you from personal experience that it is true. After a few weeks you may start to feel a difference and you may not, if not then you need an additional fill when you see the Dr. again in the next month. My Dr. was conservative with the fills waiing month to month and accessing how we were doing. Sometimes I needed a fill and my hubby didn't and vs. verse. Everyone is different so take it slow and see how you do.

We all want it to happen quickly and over night but you'll get there and you'll be glad you did it slowly so you know how you feel in each stage and where your true "green" zone is.

What does getting a fill feel like? Does it hurt?

So for me getting a full feels like getting a tune up. They feel for the port to be sure they have the right spot. It is usually under the largest incision.

Then they clean the area, insert the odd looking needle apparatus into the port. There is a little pinch no more then giving blood would pinch.

I don't get any numbing cream or any of that though some docs will put that if you request it.

When the needle is in the port you can feel a little pressure. My doctor will draw some Fluid up into the syringe to ensure it is in the port properly and then they will push that bit and more back in.

After you will sit up and drink some Water. With no issue your all done.

liquid diet for a few days then mushy-soft and back to regular food.

It can take up to 2 weeks or more for the fill to settle in around the band so don't worry if you don't "feel" anything right away. Give it time follow the rules your doc gives you and that's a fill :)

I didn't notice any difference after my 1st fill either. I didn't have any in at surgery, so I got 3 oz with my first fill.

Wow on the liquids for a week. The doctor told me. 1 day clear liquid 1 day full liquid 1 day soft and then eating again by day 4. What a big difference. I've always done fine with that.

On my last fill I didn't feel any resistance and I sure did bleed a lot. The front of my shirt we soaked with blood actually had to stand three and wash my top I had on good thing it was hot outside so it did dry quickly

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
