Why Can't I Lose Weight?

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months out and I've only lost 50 lbs. I try to eat small meals and sometimes don't eat anything, but nothing is coming off. I've stopped the shakes because I thought I was getting all the Protein I need in meals. I exercise 3 days a week and take my Vitamins. What gives?

You've lost 50 lbs. I'd say you can lose weight. Maybe up your exercise and try logging your food into something like MyFitnessPal. That's what helps me.

I am also 4 months out & have hit a wall with my weight loss. I'm down 74 lbs & very happy about that but I have 90 more to go!!! This is supposed to be the time we are dropping it like it's hot! I blame my plateau on cheating on my diet, not getting enough Water in, & not exercising enough. Sooooo...I'm back on the horse & starting drinking Protein shakes again, parking at the far end of the lot, and putting myself on a food & supplement schedule. I have 5 alarms on my phone that go off every time it's time for me to take my supplements and/or eat. I'm also squeezing exercise in wherever I can. I brought an 8lb dumbbell set to work and do arm exercises during down time. I also do butt clenches & squats. I get very weird looks from my co-workers, but screw it! I'm loving all the new found energy I have everyday!

I'm pretty much living on Protein Shakes, egg whites, grilled chicken, tuna salad, G2 & Powerade Zero, & Greek yogurt.

That's really all we can do, right??

But you should be proud of 50 lbs, that's 50 lbs less your carrying around!

Good job!!

WOW fifty pounds is quite an achievement....Were you able to lose fifty pounds prior to surgey? If you are like me you could do it but it wasn't easy then to gain a lot of it back. Drink more Water, excercise more, and cut down on carbs and write down everything that you eat.... stay away from fats in your foods...... you hit a stall but soon you'll see a loss again if you are sticking with the program....:)

Congrats on your 50 lbs gone! You said that sometimes you don't eat. Eating less is not always the key. My nurse practitioner stresses the 5 small meals a day and Protein protein protein! We have to keep that metabolism going I guess. Good luck!

50 pounds in 4 months is amazing, especially since you started out with a lower BMI. Today was my 6 month mark and I've lost 57 pounds. From where I sit, you're doing great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
