Day 3 and so uncomfortable!

Recommended Posts

We are all so different. My husband and I are 67 and had absolutely no issues. We sipped, and did not eat much after surgery, mostly broth. Rested a few days and shopped til I dropped 4 days after surgery. I would recommend rest and relax. One day at a time.

This is my first post. I was sleeved on Tuesday, April 14. My experience has been so different. I do have soreness in my abdomen, but that is about it. I have pain meds which I take when I start to get uncomfortable. I have not had problems getting the liquids in, but I also have the pain when I swallow. I have just assumed I was taking too big of a swallow. When I take smaller sips, it does not occur. I was also able to walk almost a mile today. (Not all at once, but that is what my fitbit recorded by the end of the day.)

I am shocked at how much less pain is involved than I expected. I am considering going back to work at one week. It is amazing to me. I am so glad I did this. My health was deteriorating fast and my family was suffering for it. I absolutely could not do it on my own. I am sure others also tried every diet until despair made me just stop trying. I have been silently absorbing everyone's experiences over the last few months and it has been so helpful.

It's great that you're feeling well! Remember your insides are still healing so if your job requires a lot of bending or lifting or even standing I would be careful about going back to work. I'm 12 days post op and sometimes still hurt when I stand in one place for awhile. Always ask your doctor.

Good luck! Walk, walk, walk!!!

I had my surgery on Wednesday April 16 th. Surgery went great I was told. Day of surgery I was so groggy and shakey . I took the sips every 15 min, at first I could really tell when the Water made it to the stomach. It did hurt some, but now 4 days post op the sips of Clear Liquids are much easier and I'm taking in more. Still not at 64oz a day yet. My doctor told me I could start full liquids when I left the hospital the day after surgery, but after talking with dietician , I'm going to be more cautions and stay on clears as close to 1 week post op. I have tried diluted sf pudding to take nasty tasting medications with. Only diluted full liquid I've tried. I can tell I've lost weight already, amazing.

I am in day 5. It's really different for people. First 3 days were painful because of gas. However, it did get better each day. I have never vomited and I take in my liquids. I am worried because I think my pouch can stand too much liquid.

I have thought the same thing. Never really had trouble getting the fluids in after day one, but it seems to me like it must be healing and tightening up a bit. 6 oz at a time is about what I'm good for, but 5 oz. feels better.

I was also sleeved on 4/16. I hare felt pretty good since the procedure, but I have had cramps or spasms not sure which at this point. I am drinking Water fine and it does seem like I can feel it all the way down. I had a small amount of Protein Shake and handled that well too. I have also been walking around the block a couple of times a day. I just hope the spasms or cramping stops soon.

Hi! This is my first post on this app. I was sleeved 4/16 and I am not in pain, thankfully. Just some discomfort around my drain site (removed before discharge). I'm just worried because I don't necessarily feel full. I have been having apple juice (4oz), Water, Jello (4oz) or a fruit Popsicle every hour but I don't get the sensation that I am full. Still, I don't want to push it so I don't exceed my 4 oz. Anyone else feel this way?

I feel the same way. I am concerned but people that are more post op they say when we eat solids then we will have more restrictions.

i would avoid juice, its pure sugar. you are going to have to relearn your body's physical cues. it could take some time. you are not likely to ever feel the same fullness you felt prior to surgery with 80% of your stomach gone. it just wont ever feel like it used to.

if you are feeling like you can fit more in there, drink more Water or tea. (you are not on Protein shakes yet?)

To help with drinking and gas. I bought a sippy cup. It helped push a lot of air through before I drank. I found if I drank normal or out if a straw it got gas and burped up anything I drank. Warm liquids also seemed to soothe me. Even though I really wanted ice and cool things. But they made me sick. I am on day 5.

Applesauce (unsweetened) is good to take the meds with. Also, beware of those fruit juices and the sugar in them. Loving Crystal Light.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
