Hi guys,

Does anyone know the size of their stoma between stomach and intestine?

I don't know the size although your surgeon presumably could give you an idea. Keep in mind that a certain amount of change in the stoma and the pouch are normal over time. Not sure if it will help you but the results of one study published by the National Institute of Health defined an enlarged stoma as >2 cm and an enlarged pouch as greater than 6 cm long and 5 cm wide.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! That's exactly what I need - any other links anyone could send post would be much appreciated.

I have spent hours Googling and found many sites that say the stoma size should be around 10 - 12 mm.

Mine is 'around 2 cm' and I have no restriction. food goes in, food slips out but my doctor thinks 2cm is ok. I need to find as much info as I can that this is considered 'enlarged'.

Much appreciated!

My surgeon says a stoma is created to be no more than 2cm. So I have to assume that is the size of mine.

That said, the stoma isn't really the restriction part. That's the pouch. I wonder if the "full" feeling is different for different people after surgery. It's an odd sensation for me, and if I go a bite or two beyond it I get hiccups and burps. But if I didn't pay close attention and know what it was, I'd think it is normal.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
