4 weeks out but stalled for 2 weeks! I'm worried.

Recommended Posts

I tried to post a minute ago and lost it so I'm trying again...

I'm 4 weeks out as of two days ago. I'm eating soft foods and drinking a lot of Water. I hardly eat because I'm not hungry and of course when i do, I am too full to overheat. I haven't had much exercise, but maybe I should've. I started out at 265, was 255 at surgery (vsg) and when I came home after two days in the hospital I was 230. Then two liquid-only weeks later I was down to 228. Then I seem to have stalled because I went back to 230 and now I've been hovering there.

Has anyone stalled for 2 weeks so soon after surgery? I have a post-op check up this afternoon and I'm worried that the nurse will be disappointed. I had it set in my head that I would lose slowly but steadily for months. I'm worried I may not lose more.

Did I just lose 4 weeks of work (at my job)recovering only to plateau 35lbs lighter than I originally was? I am questioning if it was worth it. I took a year educating and mentally preparing for this, and I really don't understand what I'm doing wrong!

The most commonly posted topic. Happy to report you are right where you need to be. I would suggest reading the forums a bit more.

Just a stall, stick with the program and you'll get through it. Completely normal.

Thanks PdxMan! I will read them more. I only browsed around for a few minutes. Thank you for responding, I was wondering if anyone was out there!

I have been asking myself the same questions, and I have been getting the same answers here on the board (which incidentally I appreciate all the support given). They say it's the dreaded 4 week stall. I get it, I really do, but it sure is discouraging, frustrating, depressing and so hard to accept. I have been at a stall for a little over two weeks and everyday I get on the scale and pray that it starts moving again. A part of me feels like time is ticking and that if I don't lose early on I am not going to loose all I need to lose. I keep asking myself, did I go through all this just to lose 20 pounds. Surely not. I know it sounds silly but these are the head games I am playing with myself. Couple all this with hormones and low energy and it has the makings of the illusion of defeat. So not to be a Debbie Downer, but I sure know what you mean. I am trying to keep on keeping on. But man is it hard.

Yes! I stalled out around 2 weeks and it was SO frustrating. I'm 5 1/2 months out now and I've found that I tend to stall for a few weeks, then drop a couple of pounds (or more), stall for a few weeks, then lose. It's hard to quiet the old voice that tells me that this is just one more unsuccessful attempt at gaining control. I urge you to talk back to that voice with your actions. Stick to the plan. I'm a slower loser, having lost 67 pounds of the 150 I have to lose, but it will work! Plug along.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
