Very light headed and dizzy

Recommended Posts

I have been extremely dizzy and light headed lately. I have to catch myself sometimes at work if I turn around or get up too quickly. I'm 11 months post op and down 108 pounds. I'm trying to lose another 15-20. I eat about 600 calories a day give or take a little. I've tried to increase my calories but I have a really hard time mentally. Any suggestions on how to rid of this dizziness?

May want to check with your surgeon. Just a thought though, are you getting enough Water?

I get about 70 ounces of Water in a day. I just don't have the desire to eat much because the only way I lose weight is by having very low calories. I can easily maintain with a little higher caloric intake and exercise but I'd still like to lose some. Not sure if maybe I'm lacking certain Vitamins that may be making me so dizzy.

Drink more Water. That's a symptom of dehydration. That's one of my ques that I need to up my fluids.

I would say your eating too few calories. Have you tried adding in some healthy fats? Full fat cheeses/yogurts, nuts, avocados..etc.

Keeping your intake at such a low level for that long can really mess up your metabolism.

Does your dr/nut know you're at such few calories like that on a regular basis?

Google postural hypotension. I went through a few months when every time I stood too quickly I almost went headfirst into the wall (much to my husband's amusement!)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
