Susan11803 219 Posted April 17, 2014 I have to use a Capp but having problem not being able to sleep, it's very hard for me to breath. If I do fell a sleep I wake up choking. How long does it take to get use to the pressure? Mine is set at 12.
rome 156 Posted April 17, 2014 My machine is an adjustable pressure one....goes up and down as needed during the night. I know what you mean....hard to sleep; especially at first! I actually set my alarm for the first couple of weeks. I needed to show 4 hours of usage each night for 2 weeks to be cleared for surgery. So...4 hours is what I did. However, now I'm getting used to it, learning how to maneuver in bed so that I can sleep and I've been able to extend the usage. Talk with the people that gave you the CPAP machine. They should be able to adjust the pressure for you. I know mine did. Good luck!
Dragonsmate 107 Posted April 17, 2014 also a big problem is mask fit. I had the respiratory therapist at my sleep doctor's office measure my nose and we went through the selections for styles and picked one that fit me comfortably. My issue now is weight loss in my face makes me have to adjust my straps every 2-3 weeks and now the cushion does not quit fit right. I use my fitbit at night to track my sleep and while it is not the most accurate, the difference between the nights I wear it and the nights I don't is amazing, not to mention the wicked headache in the morning after a night of not wearing it. Talk to your CPAP folks as Rome suggested and make sure the mask is a good fit for your face.
