2 weeks out- scared to start eating pureed food

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks out and 22.4 pounds down since surgery, while I am super happy with my results this far I can't help but have this fear that I'll start gaining once I eat food again. How many calories did everyone eat per day at first?

Pic is the day before surgery/today.

Don't be afraid.

I'm six months out and I eat regular food, Quest Protein bar and a Protein shake everyday and I'm still loosing.

I keep to the right portions and works.

I can tell if you don't start the next phase your body will go haywire. It needs the nutrition.

Most important is Protein and Water to help you heal properly.

Following each stage that the nutritionist and the surgeon have mapped out for you it's important.

I wish you continued success and relax it will be fine.

I agree with everything Chelly stated above, your body needs the nutrition and you need to focus on getting your Protein and Water. Follow your plan that your surgeon recommends. You may want to try tracking your foods to help you stay on track. I use My Fitness Pal and find it really helpful to stay on course. In the beginning I was getting around 500-600 calories a day. Now a year out I'm getting 1,200 - 1,300 calories a day. Good luck, you got this!!

What you're feeling is VERY normal. Just take one step / phase at a time & one day at a time. I also use MyfitnessPal.com to keep me accountable & keep track of my food. It's very helpful.

Stay focused & follow your plan. Nutrition is crutial & so are the fluids we need.

You can do it!

I had that fear too! Every time I had to up my food from 1 oz to 2 etc, I panicked !!! I thought if I ate more I would gain weight.. What I didn't realize was that when I tried to starve myself by not eating more I would stall out.. When I would finally give in and eat what I was supposed to be eating my body would start to loose again! It was more of a head thing for me!

I am praying for surgery for next month (June) I admit though the same thoughts have went through my mind I do not want gain back. You'll get through just get your Protein and Water in and eat as your plan says. Every doctor is different so go and follow your plan.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
