Day 7 post op and still not able to drink enough

Recommended Posts

Super fab when did that feeling go away?

Slowly. I know you hear this all the time but it really does get better over time. I remember being so discouraged and even crying Bc I couldn't get past that feeling. Then I got to where my urine was pretty dark so I knew I was getting dehydrated. I got Vitamin Water zero and a 1 ounce little plastic cup. I'd fill it up and my friend and I would play "the drinking game" and I'd drink an ounce every 5 minutes. We'd do that a few times a day with different fluids. (Plain Water made me sick)

At about 5 weeks out I was able to drink almost normally, taking about 3 swallows at a time per drink out of a regular cup. Now I swallow without even thinking about it. Only thing is I have to make myself remember to have something to drink with me Bc I'm never really thirsty.

Hang in there. It'll get a little better each day.

Michael,

I have done cream of potato, cream of mushroom, mashed potatoes with veggie Soup juice over them, sugar free pudding, yogurt, applesauce. I've tried refried Beans as well...they weren't so hot. I've not been eating/drinking what I should. I have been so discouraged. Cried myself to sleep that last few nights. I've been so weak and I know it is because I am probably nearing dehydration. I woke up this morning in the mindset that I WILL eat more today if it kills me. I HAVE to get my energy back. I have a lot of pain at the top of my abdomen. I just pray it gets better soon.

Add unflavored Protein powder to all of the above to boost your Protein a bit.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
