I know that with the band that weight loss is supposed to be fairly slow, but i was wondering how many of you have had a good amount of lost weight within the first six months? Would love to know what you are eating? I only ask because I would like to lose about 30 lbs more before the end of July......Is it possible?

Anything is possible if you work for it. With the band you have the tool and you will and do need to do the work. There are some on here who have lost large amounts of weight very quickly with the band. It's going to come off the way you and your body allow it to. Though 30 pounds by July is not unrealistic if you are watching portions/calories and getting in some exercise.

Hi there, when will you be banded and do you have a pre-op diet? Many people lose a chunk on pre-op. The first couple of months post-band are really about healing, not weight loss, as you get used to the new lifestyle. If you are able to lose now before you get started, that's all weight that you shouldn't see again. The band is designed to assist weight loss by lessening your appetite so you can make good decisions. Once you have surgery you will probably get fills to reach the green zone so it is not an overnight solution. I thought in terms of a year rather than in months. Also exercise is really important so whatever you are able to do now, try to do more and work yourself into a real routine as that will greatly assist the weight loss.

30 lbs is possible but will require a lot of commitment? You may not feel a lot of satiety or restriction till you get the adjustment that does this? Could be 1 or 6?

As far as what we eat, we all eat regular healthy foods. Foods that work with the band, like, Proteins first, veggies and complex carbs 2nd and 3rd. It's not so much what we eat, it's the amount we eat and the caloric content of these foods.

Everyone is different so anything is possible.

For me I eat 3 meals a day….sometimes a little snack between lunch and dinner if needed. I try and stick with solid foods. I don't used shakes at all.

My exercise is walking. I have bad knees and back so that works for me.

Hope that helps you in some way….good luck and much success to you!

It's absolutely possible but to echo others comments it requires dedication and commitment on your part to continually make the right food choices (even when we don't want to :-)). 30lbs by July is not an unrealistic goal. Make sure you get your Protein in first at each meal, then your veggies and then you starch if you still have room, if not that's a good thing , just move on:-) The most important thing I've learned throughout my journey is to believe in yourself and to give your self constant positive reinforcement. As cheesy as this sounds it works. You can do it!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
