Milk ... need thoughts

Recommended Posts

Ok... I need more Calcium and Vitamin D in my diet. I don't do much dairy... so I'm thinking milk... either to drink or put on Cereal. What are your favorites? Whole? 2% ? Skim? or do you like Almond milk ? Soy Milk? Coconut milk ? Flavors? Brands?

Thanks!!

I'm the only person I know who loves buttermilk. It's my treat a couple of times a week.

I HATE milk. I choose a vitimin supplement of Calcium w/vitimin D, plus a multivitimin and I eat yougart or hard cheeses everyday. The combination of the three gets me my 100 percent daily requirement for calcium.

I invested in chewable Calcium tablets. It's a bariatric product I found on Amazon. I'm 4 days post op and didn't want to have to swallow a huge calcium pill. Three a day provides the 500mg. It also has the Vitamin d.

Cereals and milk are slider foods and are usually not recommended. Maybe Cereal in moderation is OK with a little milk or almond milk. If you're looking for just the nutrition from these foods, Vitamin supplements might be a better alternative for a Bandster?

But, you're better off asking this of a registered dietician/nutritionist who is familiar with our dietary restrictions. What you see here is only anecdotal and if you truly need the nutrients and still want to integrate this with your band guidelines, a professional could give you better advice.imo

I do a supplement. I'm a calorie counter and I would rather chew my calories than drink them. I would Google "foods with calcium" and see what other choices come up.

I like coconut milk! In the winter Id make hot cocoa with it, using unsweetened cocoa (just don't expect it to taste as good and creamy as cows milk or you will be very disappointed).

Now I put about a cup in a mug and add coffee and heat the whole thing up.

It apparently has 50% more Calcium than dairy.

When I was first banded, I ate a LOT of dairy, plus I added Protein Powder to everything I could including Soup and pudding. I then developed lactose intolerance; I believe I brought that on by the onslaught of dairy.

I agree with the person who suggested a nutritionist. Maybe even an online nutrition site?

It's good you're asking around!!!

I'm not one to depend on pills and supplements rather than real food.< /p>

I just started eating cheese and yogurt (dietian said I needed to add to my daily food intake) and use fat free milk with my Protein Shakes and I take Calcium w/D twice a day. Many ways to do it...but feel you need to see if your surgeon can recommend a dietian for you to sit down with...that is what mine did!!!

I like skim milk and soy milk but I don't drink either of them anymore. My surgeon doesn't like us to drink our calories. I eat cheese and greek yogurt and I also take Calcium + D supplements. I really like the chewable chocolate caltrate. It's like having a treat. I also discovered that Walgreens has a store brand of them that is caramel flavored so I tried those this week and they're really yummy too.

I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk in my shakes every morning for Breakfast. I also take calcium pills. Best is to ask your doctor or dietitian. They know best for you

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
