4 weeks post-op tomorrow and still having pain

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm new here and I'm so glad I found this forum. I'm doing pretty well so far since my surgery on March 19th. My spirits are good, I'm down 20 lbs and I'm tolerating most foods now but avoiding all those things like rice and bread that I'm not supposed to have. However, I have this awful burning sharp pain just to the right of my belly button that extends across the front of my belly. Some days I'm fine but other days like today, I can barely walk. I think I aggravated it last night at the gym so it hurts pretty bad today. I can't bend over to pick things up and getting in/out of the car hurts as well. Is this normal? I thought I'd be over the pain by now. Thanks!

~Kim

this is a major surgery...the stomach is swollen for 3 months...dont strain yourself...only walking is advised for 3 months...

if you exert the stomach swells and pains...its not a good idea to over do it as we may develop a leak or some other complications.

I was doing weights after 6 weeks but got swelling. so now its only walking for me.I dare not over exert and create problems for my self. all the best.

You may have pulled something at the gym. I would slow down on that for sure. They tell us no lifting. I remember about 4 weeks out lifting something and had pain for 2 days.

I guess I should have clarified that when I went to the gym, I only did some swimming and walking. I've been told not to lift anything over 10 lbs at this point. I guess I do need to slow down though since my body is protesting.

I know this thread is a week or two old... I have the same thing, only to the left of my belly button. There are no incisions there. I have been to the doctor twice with no answers. They told me to wait a month and tough it out. The skin above where the pain is, is numb. I believe it is nerve damage, the nerves are now trying to heal and it is very painful.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
