Need Help Eating Right

Recommended Posts

Hello all-

I need help-I had my third fill and it finally took but now I don't seem to be able to hardly eat. Now I have taken to eating easy things which are not good for me. Please-some suggestions of easy things to eat which are not fattening.

Thanks so much-

I'm still on the mush stage so I eat oatmeal, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs sugar free instant Breakfast or applesauce

Lunch I eat Soups, sugarfree Jello or pudding and i drink Adkins shakes

Dinner Again Soup I'm a big soup lover so thats no problem having it all the time, sweet potatoes mashed potatoes, chili tuna w/ lots of lo fat mayo or egg saled again w/ lo fat mayo and once in a while small amount of mac and cheese. Hope this helps I was Banded Mar 14 2007 and have lost 25 lbs already which is fabulous for me, when and where were you banded?

There is a thread in here that talks about a cook book just for gastic bypass people, I forgot what its called but it is in the thread for foods. I have found that thread very help for ideas and recipes. Check it out.

Don't get discouraged Also addicted to sugar free popsicles

Best of Luck

Mattie

Hi Mattie-

I was banded at Hartford Hosp by Dr. Tishler last November. I've lost about 30 lbs-I started at 200 lbs. and am now about 165-170lbs. I don't weigh myself too much because I'm a little obsessive. My last fill was the one that took and now I can hardly eat anything except chocolate and stuff that's bad for me. Dr. T doesn't want us to have Soup so that's out and I'm dying for real food.

Thanks for your help

I think you may have taken what Dr. T said about Soup choices as can never have soup at all. He said to avoid cream based Soups because of the extra calories. There are tons of other soups out there. For other ideas - call one of the nutritionists he works with. I am sure they will be more than happy to help you out.

Good luck. I am about to be banded by dr t = can't wait.

This is difficult because each person finds their own comfort zone. When I got that tight, I ended up getting a little bit taken out. The PA who did the fills said that if a person is so tight that they need to stay on soft food more than a few days after the fill, it defeats the purpose of the band. The idea is to be able to eat most (but not all) regular food but a lot less of it. There are a lot of very high carorie soft foods (my personal weakness is frozen yogurt) and getting into the habit of eating foods that will pass easily through the band may not help in the long run.

It's still a very personal choice and what's important is to find what works for you.

For me...I have trouble with bread, overcooked meat (especially poultry), overcooked eggs, and some tough/stringy vegetables. I have fewer problems if I chew very well, take care not to pvercook things, and peel the problem vegetables (like broccoli stalks).

Things also seem to go in cycles where at times I feel just the right amount of restriction and at times it feels as if I could eat anything. I guess that's the beauty of the band....it can be adjusted.

Don't be afraid to back off a bit and see how it works. You can add more later if it turns out that the high restriction works better for you.

Best of luck

Ellen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
