I had my surgery on 4/4/14. I had no problems drinking Clear Liquids and staying hydrated. On Saturday I moved to phase 2- full liquids. I was only able to drink 1 Protein Shake the whole day. It made me feel horrible. ( I drank it slow different times of the day) The shake sent me to the bathroom where I just gagged a few times, and also sent me to the bathroom for the "other end". Sunday I just suck to yogurt which didn't make me feel sick but it also immediately sent me to the bathroom. Yesterday for Breakfast and lunch it was yogurt, which just rushed me to the bathroom. Last night for my family's dinner I made baked pork chops and boiled potatoes. I decided to break the rules and take a few bites of the pork chop. I chew it and chewed it. In about 45 min. I ate about a half of a pork chop and a couple bites of potatoes. The "regular" food stayed down with not sick feeling, and it didn't send me running to the bathroom. How strange is this?? Then I start getting paranoid after reading on the forums about people who went to have the surgery but the doctor didn't "really" do the sleeve. So now I am scared my doctor didn't really do it! Am I just being crazy???

Go easy on yourself, and please try to follow your medical team's instructions. Solid foods probably aren't the best choices right now. And it's not that strange what you're feeling… your insides just got a major overhaul, and your body is saying WTF? Find what works and stick with that for awhile.

I too found I couldn't tolerate much dairy during the early full-liquid stage. Now, at almost 2 months out, it's going down better. But during that phase I found homemade chicken Soup (just the broth, gave the solids to the dog LOL) and hot herbal teas worked the best. I was also allowed sugar free popsicles which were pretty yummy. There's a gazillion Protein drinks out there, but people here seem to like powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. Personally, I started with Eat the Bear, but found that too sweet (and artificially sweetened). Then I went to Garden for Life (too chalky). Now I've settled on Nitro Pro chocolate. But YMMV.

Just stay as true to the plan and you'll be just fine! Good luck, and please keep us posted.

Be well…

Thanks guys! I just found it strange that the regular food was tolerated better than the other stuff I had been eating.

the protien shake mix may have too much sugar,I had the same issue and switched to Six Star Wey isolate elite series,it made a world of difference for me,the excess sugar gives you dump syndrome and can be a royal pain .

Just want to echo grimlin's thoughts. I'm guessing too much sugar which is causing an insulin reaction and a bit O'Diarrhea. Perhaps try the greek yogurt and switch out your Protein shake. I am a big fan of Premier shakes. Get them at costco or Sam's Club.

Four weeks post op I got choked on a bit of chicken. I thought I was having a heart attack and I am serious. You may have swallowed that pork okay, but being newly sleeved I was advise you to not do it again until your plan calls for food. Next time you might not be so lucky with solid food going down easy. At almost 5 months out we are still eating carefully and slowly. Too many posts here have warned me. Good luck finding the right shakes and things that agree with you. I have Immodium AD for the bad times and Milk of Magnesia for the other bad times.

I just find it so strange that the foods I am supposed to be eating right now make me sick! The foods I am not supposed to be eating because my stomach is still healing are way easier for me to eat!! I even tried grits today (very runny) but they didn't sit well with me either and made me feel sick.

Are you making your shakes with milk? I was lactose intolerant right after surgery. It took me a week to figure it out. shakes with milk and yogurt made me want to hurl.

Ah yes, I forgot about this. This us true. Many folk go through a period of lactose intolerance. This may be true for you. Try going off all diary for a few days. Got almond or soy milk, my wife and kids love the stuff.

I made my shakes with Water and still couldn't handle them! I am able to eat yogurt pretty easily. Guess I will try the shakes again in a few days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
