I was standing in a room the other day and someone, who hasn't seen me for a while, walked in, looked at me and said, "you are scary skinny".

My only response to that is "J and E babe, J and E". :)

(jealousy and envy)

I'd love to see any pics you got! I'm 5'9 as well and would love to even hit 170 so I am curious as to what the 140s look like :)

I think it's all relative.

I'm 5ft 10 and if I got to the 140's I would look ill. But this is also because I have a large celtic bone structure. I could carry bricks, my shoulders are so wide!

I don't think anyone can really comment, unless there is a pictorial representation.

If your bone structure is very slight, then 140's might look great.

As for your friends comment - its insensitive and inappropriate - but maybe they genuinely feel you don't look well at that weight/height ratio.

Wow . . . 139 does seem low for your height, but as long as you feel healthy and energetic. I'm curious if you went below your goal purposefully. Who set your original goal at 150, your doctor? Does he or she feel 139 is a good weight for you? Are you maintaining at 139? Hope I didn't ask too many questions and congratulations on your success!

My hubby had RNY 8 years ago and did VERY well. Lost over 100lbs and was in the normal range for BMI. He complained to his surgeon that everyone thought he looked sick and he was "too skinny". His surgeons response? There are so many obese people these days, they don't even know what "normal" weight looks like anymore. Made my husband feel so much better! You keep rocking your "scary skinny" girl!

I am down 50 pds since January - 35 since surgery 07/19.. A girl at work asked me if I had been sick, like with cancer. I nearly fell out. One girl told me loosing weight a lot of times makes you look older, then followed it with you sure lost a lot. I told her yes fat people make pretty corpse. Haters going to hate....

I think sometimes its also that people are used to you looking bigger.. 140ish pounds certainly isn't anorexic skinny! I agree.. I think people just forget what normal looks like!

I know the feeling. I see people all the time who comment about how much I've lost. At about a year post op I got a lot of , "You're wasting away to nothing",or, "are you still losing weight, are you ok?". I have been eating more since my 1 year check up and working out more now that I have the energy and last month a friend asked if I was taking steroids . I said no, just steak and veggies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
