Success Stories Please

Recommended Posts

I was revised on 2-5-14 and I've lost 43 lbs since then. The last 3 weeks the scale hasn't moved but I'm sure I'm either gaining muscle or at a stall. I'm determined not to worry and I'm determined to be successful! Could some other revision patients please share your success stories because reading all the doom and gloom & failure stories is really discouraging right now!!! Please and Thank You!

I weighed 308 in November 2011: 300 on the day of my revision to sleeve 12/11/11

I hit my personal goal of 158 in Feb 2013

Today April of 2014 I weighed 145.

I feel very successful with the sleeve after 10years of poor results with the band....never got under 200# when banded.

I'm contemplating revision, banded in 2008 never lost more than 65 lbs...frustrated, not sure to sleeve or RNY??

I hope you realize that you are already a success story too. I just had my surgery last week, 4/9, and it is encouraging to hear about the loss you've had having been sleeved just a couple months before me. Congrats on your success thus far! I'm sure you're still eating right and exercising, so the scale will start showing your hard work again soon. Keep it up and thanks for the positive thread.

I was banded in 2008. I lost my band due to slippage from excessive stress. I had to wait 3 months for the healing before I could get my sleeve and gained back 35 of the 50 pounds that I lost. I was sleeved in October of 2010. I reached my personal goal of 130 in 2011, I think it was around Thanksgiving, not too sure, but around 13 months. I have maintained that since, bouncing around with 5 pounds here and there, but never more or less I do not weigh myself anymore, just go by how my jeans fit, I'm currently in a GAP size 2, so I'm very pleased.

You are doing wonderful. There will be many stalls in the beginning, it is just your body adjusting to the changes, just keep doing what you are doing, Protein Protein and some veggies. I have to admit, I never ever exercise, still to this day, I will go for the occasional walk with the kids, but that about does it. I try to get 5000 steps in because i have a sitting job, but it is so hard.

Keep up the good work!!

Patti

I'm not sure if I am posting in the right place. I was banded in 2007. It worked well at first but after having my son 5 years ago, I cannot get this thing under control. Multiple fills. If I have even a little bit in it, i have terrible reflux. I empty it, I gain weight. I am strongly considering the revision but have some questions...

I was told the band would make me feel "full". I never feel full, just pressure and "stuck". Then, I either vomit or close eyes and wait for food to go down.

Does the sleeve just give you a full feeling? No pain? No vomiting?

How slow do you have to eat? What happens if you over eat? Do you get problems with reflux?

I really appreciate any advice or caution moving forward. I need to know what to expect this time.

Hi MissyP1, I had the exact same problems with the band, which I got in 2008. I never felt full -- just pressure and stuck like you. I gained back nearly all of the 40 lbs I lost, so last summer I got it unfilled and then started working on all the steps to get the sleeve. I just got sleeved Wednesday 4/30. So it's too early for me to say how it's going to work. But so far, sipping Water and Protein shakes, and Protein pudding, I'd say it's already easier to get down than it was with the band filled. And that's just 2 days after surgery. My doc told me it would simply feel more natural and it does so far (aside from the recovery pain of course). Also I haven't felt hungry yet and I'm eating very little. So that's a very short bit of data, but your band experience resonated very strongly with me!

I had similar experience with the band more pain versus satisfied. I think it takes relearning with the sleeve. Eat till no longer hungry (this applies once you ate 6 plus weeks out before that eat according to surgeon guide). Over time you learn that full is too much and uncomfortable. So eating till no longer hungry keeps a good restriction feeling.

I Am 2.5 Years From Revision AND Maintaining.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
