Hi there! I'm in Wichita and just joined here last week. Haven't seen many Kansans here.

Where are you in your weight loss journey?

Hi April! I am in the, what I call, the "hoop jumping" stage of my journey. I have BCBS insurance which requires a 6 month physician followed diet program, I'm going in today for my 4 month doctor visit. I've met my surgeon for the first time and have had the psych eval (passed, yay!), saw a dietitian and have had a preliminary sleep study done. Whew! After all of that I can have everything turned into insurance to see if they will cover my surgery (fingers crossed). Then, I will get a surgery date.

Where are you in your journey? I'm excited to get to meet someone else from Kansas, WELCOME!! :)

I'm actually from Topeka Schwingirl. Born and raised there. My surgery went great. The whole process to get to my surgery was an amazing journey. I had to have surgery in Lenexa at The Bariatric Center of Kansas City. My surgeon and nutritionists are awesome. Having the RNY was the best thing I've ever done for myself.

I wish you the very best in your journey. I've also worked in the medical ins field for 30 years so if any questions regarding ins or surgery I will do my best to help.

Hey, small world! I'm so glad everything is going well :) I'm still on a long road, trying to get some weight off before a surgery date can be scheduled. Sometimes it feels like I'm not going to get there but I keep trying! I can't wait to get to where you are. Happy journey :)

Good to see you here! I'm not all that sure how long it takes. With my insurance I have to go through the six month doctor supervised weight loss program before they will approve me, still in the middle of that after a setback and now back on the right path. I've heard of some who got their approval and surgery date within a couple of weeks but like I said I'm not totally sure of the time frame. Good luck and best wishes to you !

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
