Recommended Posts

Hello, My name is Andrea. I just had Bypass surgery March 31,2014. I was just looking to see if there was others to talk to and just see if I am in the same area of healing as others and whats foods people are eating. Just looking for anyone who wants to give advice to help make this work for me that best it can.

I just had mine April 10th. Still in a lot of pain but hoping it will get better soon. I don't know where you are from the san francisco bay area but that is where I live. I'm looking for someone to check in with about this new life, as well. Someone mentioned going to OA meetings so as soon as I have a little more strength and managed this one area of pain, I'm going to go check out the groups.

Hello I also had my surgery on March 31. I am getting better day by day but I do not have the same amount of energy like I used to before surgery. Also I don't have much of an appetite either. Now I am on puréed diet where I still consume more of my Proteins from my shakes. How are you doing?

I had my surgery 11 months ago. Your weight should be dropping like a lead brick. I found that I had no hunger so it was easy to let the pounds melt off. There is a lot of hassle at the beginning. It took me 6 months to reach a happy state.

I am 14 months post and the first 3 were definitely the hardest for me. I wondered if I had made the right decision in those first few months. It's been so worth it! It took me about 3 weeks after surgery to feel better. I walked several times a day, even though it was slow going. Feel free to message me. Best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
