Weight loss in a year: 179lbs, with 39lbs to go until goal. Shouldn't take another year to lose those.

Side effects: Very few, really.

No heartburn after the first week post-op (still not taking PPIs either)

Can eat/drink just about anything in varying amounts.

Loose skin is easily tucked out of sight.

Fatigue happens more often now, and my hypoglycaemic-induced Migraines became more frequent until I started taking medication for them.

Lots of hair loss, buts it's thickening back up now.

Other than that, all is well. It was a good decision to have the sleeve :)

Hi~ I don't expect to reach my goal within a year, but I'm ok with it. A friend of mine took 2 years-- she lost 50 the first year and 50 the second, and has maintained her loss for several years now. I figure it's not a race, it's a lifetime thing. Though I do get impatient sometimes!

And the acid reflux is the side effect I am having. Never had it before surgery, and it's not all the time now. I just pop an over the counter medicine (zantac is my fave) and it's better within 5 minutes. It's no big deal, and definitely a small price to pay for having lost 110 lbs! I didn't have hair loss and my skin is ~meh~ ...ok. I figure I'm 42 so it's not going to be stellar. I have no problem wearing a bikini to the local beach though.

Another thing about not reaching goal within a year -- I set my goal where some would consider pretty ambitious -- 150 and I'm 5'9". I'm at 179 now. Really I only have another 10 lbs to go to be considered a "healthy" BMI. I will see how I feel when I get to 169 and may or may not make a run for the 150. Nothing's concrete. My surgeon basically let me set my own goal. A lot of people set their goal still in the "overweight" category, because getting there is still SO much more healthy than being in the "obese" category.

Pretty close to goal... About 25lbs and it's going faster than I'd like... I added more veggies to the mix. Flabby skin, but plan on total body lift in the future. Some fatigue , but serious heartburn is an issue and it causes me to eat even less than I'm supposed to. I drink many meals now. Socializing is pretty strange now.

I got to goal- 140 lbs 13 months out. Working on my stretch goal but frankly, I'm not working that hard to get there. No heartburn unless I eat spicy foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
