Hi all, this is my very first time here. I am so inspired by people pictures, stories and support that I want to be a part of it too. I went for my intial consult with the doctor, nutitionist and psychologist on March 24, 2007 and have a tenative surgery date of June 25, 2007. Right now I am just praying that my insurance will approve the procedure. I am definitly looking to make connections with individuals just starting out so we can support one another a long the way. I look forward to hearing from you!

Stacey, welcome to lapband talk forum. It is so exciting for you! I love hearing newbie stories. I've been banded for 10 months and I'm down about 50 lbs. I am considered a slow/average loser at 1 lb per week. You will love being banded. It is so great not to have food control you. Good luck.

Hello everyone,

I'm a June 07 bander also Stacy Z. Mine is scheduled for the 27. It's nice to find someone else who is still about 2 months out. I just found this websight 2 days ago, but I've learned so much already, and have so many more questions to ask my Dr. Where are you being banded? I'm in Kentucky.

Wow, how exciting to have your date scheduled. I just had surgery on March 26th. I'm also in Kentucky, but had the surgery at Good Sam in Cincinnati. It has been 5 weeks and I've lost 31 lbs. I have not had no problems and I feel great. I have 69 more lbs to lose!! I get my first fill on Monday May 7th. I can't wait for that. You will love this procedure. I live in Northern KY. Where do you live?

Tracy :)

Hi Tracy,

I live in Latonia, KY. We can't be too far away from each other.

Wow, you've done so well in a little bit of time. Who did your surgery? Was it Curry? I research both him and Sonnanstine, but went for the hospital over here in KY.

I am new here myself. I go to my first seminar on monday and was wondering what the official process is for the lap band. I know that I have to wait on insurance approval, but is that something that I can start now or not? What types of tests and specialist will I have to go through first? I am eager just to hear more information...makes the wait a little better because I would go for surgery tomorrow if they would let me. I am just so inspired by everyones stories and just knowing that there are so many others like myself out there. My thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of you. I can't wait to share in this amazing life changing experience!

Jen,

When you pay cash, you don't have all of the test...I did sleep study...wore a monitor at home and then took back the next day....never had to have psych test...did have to have an EKG...only because I have had open heart surgery and it had been a while since I last had EKG and I needed this to be put to sleep....

Congratulations to all the new banders coming up in June...I am excited for each of you....I was banded in April....the 6th...almost a month for me...and I am so glad I had this done...

I think every doctor has their own set of testing guidelines. I'm self pay, and I've had a one on one with a dietician, psychologist, I've had an upper GI, and I have 4 weeks of mandatory group therapy to prepare for life after lapband. I think it's a good thing. Don't be in a hurry to get through it. Learn all you can in the months leading up to the surgery. That's what I'm doing here on this site.

If I need anymore tests, that's fine. Whatever makes the surgery and after go better for me is in my best interest.

Hi Stacey,

I will be banded on 28 Jun. We need to find out how to locate other ones that will be banded in Jun so we can help each other out. I found out my insurance will pay for this. :clap2:

Good Luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
