Loristi 14 Posted April 14, 2014 Hi all, Im new around here and will be going to the Bariatric Orientation tonight so Im obviously just beginning with the journey. My question is, where can I find reliable statistics on the 3 main weightloss surgeries? I'm trying to read up on stats of complications, etc so I weight all the possibilities. Can you help? Thanks! KittyKat848 93 Posted April 14, 2014 The book Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies is actually pretty good. Also, the American Society for Metabolic Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) is a great resource. http://asmbs.org 1 parisshel reacted to this
Ginger Snaps 1,323 Posted April 14, 2014 Web MD has a lot of information including stats on each of the main 3 surgeries, comparison of risk, etc.
2muchfun 8,927 Posted April 14, 2014 The founder of this site posted this link below a few months ago and it's probably fairly accurate. However, stats alone should not be your guiding light I'm sure you're aware? Use stats along with your own doctor's advice and research, research, research what will be best for you. Anecdotal stories will vary and although may be illuminating, they can't compare to your own personal environment or experiences. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/291785-new-jama-surgery-study-shows-weight-loss-surgery-is-getting-safer-and-more-effective/ 1 beeteroo reacted to this
Loristi 14 Posted April 14, 2014 Ooh thanks for the info, that was helpful. I realize that there are a lot of things to factor in before picking a procedure, etc. But like I said, I'm only starting out and trying to begin researching and thought "risks" was a good start. Thanks again!
BigGirlPanties 957 Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) At the first seminar I went to, they explained the 3 basic surgeries and the reasons why you may want to choose one over the other...for me, there was no doubt, right from the beginning, I wanted the sleeve! Dr-Patient 830 Posted April 15, 2014 I hope to get some info and links to you soon; they can be an adjunct to your processing all the procedures.

DLCoggin 1,788 Posted April 15, 2014 The success of bariatric surgery coupled with a worldwide obesity epidemic has resulted in a dramatic increase in the amount of information available. They have also resulted in increases in funding for research into all aspects of causes and treatments for obesity. New discoveries are being made almost daily. And with each new discovery comes new questions. Although there is a great deal of excellent information available on the Internet, there is also a great deal of nonsense. Here is a partial list of resources that I have found to be informative and to the greatest extent possible, based on credible science. There are many more and I would very much appreciate everyone's suggestions for adding other resources to this list. http://www.mayoclinic.org/ http://www.webmd.com/ http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ http://www.who.int/en/ http://iom.edu/ http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/obesity-prevention-source/ http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/ http://asmbs.org/ http://www.mbsaqip.org/ http://www.eatright.org/public/ http://medicalxpress.com/overweight-obesity-news/ http://www.medscape.com/today http://www.medpagetoday.com/ http://www.cdc.gov/ http://www.sciencedaily.com/ 2 parisshel and BigGirlPanties reacted to this

shmily 424 Posted April 15, 2014 At the first seminar I went to, they explained the 3 basic surgeries and the reasons why you may want to choose one over the other...for me, there was no doubt, right from the beginning, I wanted the sleeve! These posts where people seem to be given little information for pre or post op make me even more thankful for the TEAM my surgeon had put together!!
BigGirlPanties 957 Posted April 15, 2014 @shmily agreed...mine is a Bariatric Excellence Facility, and they cover a LOT before and after...they offer two monthly meetings to discuss and educate! Wonderful group of folks!
