What is your typical day?

I'm 10 1/2 months out, down 113 pounds.

Breakfast: high Protein coffee shake.

Mid morning: Greek yogurt w/chopped pecans

Lunch: usually homemade chicken chili but sometimes shrimp cocktail.

Mid-afternoon: an oz of cheese (I love real cheese) or some CrunchO's (protein snack)

Dinner: fish or chicken, a little steamed vegetables. Maybe chicken sausage stir fry. Or some lean sandwich meat wrapped in a Joseph's wrap with mustard. dinner varies...

Evening snack: two sf Popsicles

I do eat Protein Bars but on an emergency basis. I keep them in my car, my purse, and my desk at work. Anytime I'm caught without an acceptable food option, either through poor planning or from being out too long, I eat a bar. Not the best choice, but better than fast food or junk food. :-)

I would try to add in some yogurt, nuts, edamame, string cheese as your mid & afternoon snacks... I would cut the bars out (and just use them if you are on the go & need something quick...) Maybe cut the shakes down to just a few times a week or cut the shakes in half & add some greek yogurt & some fresh fruit to it??? Good luck :)

Oh i am 4 months out, down 68lbs - i "was" walking about 4-5 miles a day but due to a DVT i am only allowed one mile a day... I only drink Water or skim milk - nothing else... no coffee, tea or anything else... this is just an average of what i do...
Breakfast:
1 egg white, with 1/2 slice LF Am cheese & little mustard

Snack might be one of the following (2 times a day):

1/2 apple - no skin

1/2 bananna

1/2 potein shake 30gm Protein, 1 gm of sugar

greek yogurt 100 cal

unsweeten Apple sauce w/ Protein added

string cheese

Lunch:

usually left overs from dinner the night before

2oz of meat or fish (cant always get the full 2oz down)

snack (see above)

Dinner:

lean meat, chicken or fish - mashed taters or seamed veggies (normal meal is about 2-3oz)

Snack:

slice of low fat AM cheese

or about oz of Cereal with skim milk

frozen sf Popsicle or sf pudding

Ok...changes made and feeling better about things already. I had my usual egg white omlette with a slice of turkey cut up and low fat shredded cheese for Breakfast. I then made a couple of snack packs for the mid mornorning and afternoon Snacks. Each has 1 oz of turkey and 2 oz cheese...19 grams Protein and only 1 gram carbs each. I also made a small bag of grapes...but didn't realize purple grabs were loaded in carbs apparently. No more of those after today. Still have my usual 2.5oz tuna packet for lunch. Will decide dinner tonight after work but probably a turkey wrap. No Protein bars at all today. I have about 6 left at home so they will be eaten over time but not replaced probably or used as an emergency basis. Thanks everyone for the advice and encouragement.

I love this thread... We can all use something to compare our diets to.

I saw you use EAS shakes, and I do too, but I use the EAS Carb Advantage~ 100 cal, 17gm of Protein.

Breakfast~ weight control oatmeal

morning snack~ Eas Carb advantage shake

lunch 2oz nonfat, plain greek yogurt mixed with dannon light and fit vanilla greek yogurt

1/2c blueberries, 1/2 c. Strawberries and 1/2 oz sliced almonds

Afternoon snack~ either EAS Carb advantage shake or Grande Skinny Latte

Dinner: Tonight it's chicken lightly breaded with panko, mozzarella cheese and Pasta sauce and a small spinach salad on the side

Evening Snack: sugar free/fat free pudding

I usually average 1000 cal per day and 80 gm of Protein

I drink at least 80oz of crystal light per day...

So, what is your typical day like food wise? I am at about 8 months post op and down 106 lbs since the beginning of my journey. About 85 lbs. since surgery day. I have a basic routine as far as what I eat but I am curious what everyone else does. I am still loosing but not like I want to. I am still doing my walking and bike riding but want to expand on my meals. Here is a typical day for me:

2 scrambled eggs and turkey sausage link for Breakfast.

Protein shake on the way to work.

Protein bar mid morning.

2.5oz tuna pack for lunch

protein bar midafternoon

dinner varies but always high in protein like turkey, fish or chicken.

Protein bar or shake midevening but never after 8pm.

I drink minimum of 5 16oz bottles of Water thru the day. No tea or soft drinks or coffee.

Does this sound ok or any suggestions on kickstarting again and moving the scale south some more? Also started more exercise as well.

Hey everyone, I'm far from surgery but as I read through people's food, I'm wondering where are the vegetables? I know the focus is on getting enough protein but I'm sitting here eating my lunch of a marinated kale (2 cups) with steak (4 ounces) and avocado a few dried cherries, do I have to say good bye to eating like this with the sleeve? Can anyone eat lettuce or salads still post-op?

I am only 4 months out - i havent tried salads yet, but when you eat, you have to eat Protein frist... by the time you get to the otherstuff your full. A friend of mine had the sleeve done, she eats salads (spring mix) with some Protein (chicken, seafood etc) she is able to get in about 1/2 cup of it down before she is totally full.

as the warmer weather approaches i do miss the salads... (was something i ate all the time) but honestly i am so full after a few oz of food... that i dont "really" miss it yet... do you know what i mean?

but from the post op meeting i have gone to, there are lots of people who have salad, they just dont have it every day... and always always eat your protein first... :)

Hello MisforMimi, When eating a regular meal like dinner, I have my Protein a veggie and a starch. I have roughly 4 oz total. 2 oz is the Protein, 1 oz veggie and 1 oz starch. Then I usually eat using the 311 method. I take 3 bites protein, 1 bite veggie, 1 bite starch and repeat. That way, if I get full before finishing it all, I have had mostly protein which is the most important.

Thanks, good tips. I still think I will miss being able to dive head first into a salad. I'll have to be one of the folks who eats real food, tho. Its less tempting for me. A Protein bar will feel like a candy bar. And obviously, I could eat more than one in a sitting. And sugar-free foods makes me want to jump off a bridge into a vat of whatever the "real food" is. Oh well, here's hoping my tastes buds change after surgery.

You will be surprised as far as SF foods go. I have always HATED sugar free...now, I can't tell a difference and I can eat them no problem.

As for salads, I have one occasionally, very small. Once again topped with Protein like grilled chicken or turkey. Just enough lettuce for the salad experience I guess.

LOL!! i have to agree... you will be shocked as far as SF foods go... i couldnt stand them before, now they are fine no problem... its things with sugar that make me ill... its so weird!!! but wonderful at the same time!!

Hey everyone, I'm far from surgery but as I read through people's food, I'm wondering where are the vegetables? I don't usually have room for vegetables after my protein. If I do eat them with my meal I only eat a little bit. We all know what happens if you cross the line of eating a little too much - last night my attempt to eat summer squash w/dinner had me foaming before losing my dinner. On occasion I'll make a meal of just vegetables. :-)

me I luv my Protein shake from Celebrate it got 27 Protein and 100 cal and a lot of Vitamins I drink a cup coffee at 5 am at 8 am a shake and then the gym come back an 1 egg with a slice of cheese a a toast from those tat come in a pack or another shake and in between a sometimes a slice of turkey and 4 cottage chees n fruit and at 6 cause my stomache let the dragon out lol a cup of cream of wheat and 9 a tea but don't get me wrong sometimes I eat sugarless pudding and Jello but normally this is my food

-breakfast is either an egg and a morningstar sausage (vegetarian) sausage patty, or chobani simply 100 vanilla yogurt with 1/4 c high Protein kashi Cereal (usually not able to finish the second selection). Have some P28 high Protein bread but I have not tried it yet (14 grams/slice).

-lunch is usually 2-3 ounces of grilled chicken, grilled fish, steak, or a small hamburger patty cooked on the GF grill.

I try and add some veggies-wilted spinach is packed with nutrients in a small serving-or asparagus tips a couple times a week.

-dinner is pretty much the same thing as lunch, or I have sliced chicken/turkey deli meat roll ups with a slice of sargento thin cheese.

-snacks (try and get in 2 a day)-cottage cheese is a go-to for me (2% Breakstone in the 4 ounce cup), baby bel cheese, or half a small apple (peel included) with PB2. Guilty pleasure is Pork rinds 1/2 an ounce <ducks>

The only Protein Drink I can stomach is Chike's high protein coffee drink when I need the caffeine in the afternoon (I work swing shift into the evening hours) and I drink it only once or twice a week at work. The thought of eating a Protein Bar or a different shake makes me gag...my hat is off to you guys who can still tolerate them :P

Calories average about 850-900. I am trying to increase my protein to 75-80 min with my increased exercise, and carbs, well, I try and keep it below 50, some days I do better than others but I am trying to keep a variety in my diet so I do not get bored. I drink crystal light, iced tea and coffee (no carbonated drinks at all-stopped about 4 months before surgery)...not enough fluids but I am working on that as well.

Today, first thing am hot tea with spoonful of sugar and a splash of milk, 8am turkey Jerky and a small amount of raw nuts, 10 am Belvita breakfast biscuts ( 4 pack) and a small cup of Swiss Miss, afternoon 1 small slice white pizza ( chicken, white sauce , spinach, pine nuts) , dinner a little chicken , couple bites cheese, later my very rare small chai tea from the coffee shop. ( I try to eat a bite or 2 of fruit or salad some days with Protein of fish, chicken , elk , moose , or pork for dinner ) Most days have a cookie or 2 also.

very informative stuff...

I see a lot of you add carbs to your meals...which is unexpected...

On the salad thing...I miss that too...(never thought I'd say I miss salad)... even when we go out to eat, I don't order that, I ask for double vegetables and take them home...usually something I don't buy regularly, like zucchini :)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
