Feeling dizzy and faint

Recommended Posts

Hi I've had my surgery on April 2nd. A week later I've felt light headed and dizzy every time I stand up and if I stand up too long I feel like I'm about to faint. This has happen for some days and I've been to the dr. For test every thing is fine. Has anyone else felt like this. I hate this feeling. Can't get anything done cuz I'm always feeling dizzy or like I'm going to pass out

It sounds like it might be orthostatic hypotension. Did they discuss that with you? Are you on blood pressure meds? If so, you might want to discuss lowering or stopping them with your PCP.

One thing I have seen a lot of people say is that if you pump your legs for several seconds before standing up, and stand up slowly, that helps a lot.

Disclaimer: I am NOT a health care professional of any sort! This is just something I have seen discussed on the boards before as a common result of wls.

Yep I've had that feeling. I had my surgery 12-3-13. In march is when I started noticing it. I'd get up and walk a couple steps and I'd have to stop. My head was foggy and I felt dizzy. I told my surgeon about it and he seemed to think it may be my blood pressure but it wasn't abnormally low. I just saw my PCP and she did some lab work so I'm anxious to hear what that says. My surgeon doesn't do bloodwork until my 6 mos. appt. but I can't help thinking something is off. I never had any dizziness prior to surgery.

I'm pretty sure it's dehydration or something with u cuz if it were anything bad I think it would've been detected.

Nikkib it def sounds like dehydration with you to! Even if your labs were ok, your BUN & creatinine might has been slightly off (which we nurses and drs say it's ok) but it means slight dehydration! I would try increasing your liquids and see if that helps!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
