Excess Skin after major loss

Recommended Posts

What are folks doing with all the extra skin hanging after loosing 150+ so far with another 50 to go (yes I was very big)?

Should I consider removal now or wait until the end? It is having an emotional effect on me now

Congrats on your phenominal weight loss! It's recommended you get within 20lbs of your goal weight before starting consultations with surgeons in regards to having excess skin removed. If you were to start the process now or have the surgery too soon then you may not recieve the optimal results, i.e. when you lose the additioanl 50lbs and you've already had the surgery the likeliness of additional lose skin appearing is high escpecially since it is major surgery and the recovery time can be 4-6weeks, which means no excercise or very limited. Hope this helps!

Hi there, congratulations on your phenomenal weightloss. Like you I've lost over 150lb in less than a year. I've 30 to go. I'm having a lot of skin removal work done. I'm having a fleur de lys TT and breast lift with possibly under muscle implants. I'm having my arms done and a thigh lift. Sagging everywhere. My surgeon said I could have the work done now but might have to have it tweaked again if I continued to lose weight. So I'm going to get to goal first. I'm booked for my TT in July 2014. Just need to lose my last 30 lbs. Really excited.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
