queenhelene 1 Posted April 12, 2014 I'm 4 days post op and I'm supposed to be taking my 2 chewable Multivitamins, and chewable Calcium. I'm scared they'll hurt or get stuck in my swollen sleeve. When did you start your supplements?

MelBooks 76 Posted April 13, 2014 My surgeon wants us to start as soon as we get home. I've taken a tiny sip of Water and chewed, chewed, chewed until it's down to just a thin paste.
bosslady99751 19 Posted April 13, 2014 I also read that you can blend Vitamins in your smoothies too!
Harley59 67 Posted April 13, 2014 My surgeon was very clear, no Vitamins until my 2 week post op. He said just to focus on phase I and phase II , which is basically the Protein shakes and now, lowfat yogurt, sugar free pudding, cream of rice (2Tbsp) only. ect. I am 4 days post op and doing pretty well. Good luck. I would call your surgeon and ask.
queenhelene 1 Posted April 13, 2014 I took one chewable, and I feel incredibly nauseous, this is the worst I've felt post surgery. Pre-natal Vitamins made me sick too though.
Fat2FiveK 31 Posted April 13, 2014 I'm three days post op and I'm supposed to start them today or tomorrow. I tried one chewable with a spoonful if applesauce as a chaser. I vomited. It's the first time I've been sick since I've been home. I've never been able to take anything on an empty stomach without getting sick before surgery. I'll try again tomorrow after some Soup or broth.
queenhelene 1 Posted April 13, 2014 I think the soup/broth idea will work well! I'm going to try that too. I poured the rest of my shake down the drain tonight, the thought of anything sweet makes it worse. 1 kazzygal reacted to this
Fat2FiveK 31 Posted April 13, 2014 I loved my Protein Shakes before surgery, now not so much. It feels like there are so many supplements to take. I feel like first I need to keep Water and broth down. Supps aren't going to matter if I'm dehydrated. One chewable multi a day and I'll build up to two and them four. I'll add the others in as I go. I know the Calcium, Iron and B12 are important but I think multi should come first. No way are all of those going down yet. It made me feel better to read the post about the Dr saying to start supps after the two week check up. I've had no pain, stopped meds post op day 2. No gas at all even in the hospital. It's fascinating how different our recoveries are. 1 kazzygal reacted to this
kazzygal 39 Posted April 13, 2014 I was told to start when I'm on puréed diet. I had 2 days clear fluids in hospital then 7 days free liquid (currently on day 3 of this). I agree it's hard to get everything in as I can only do a little, but each day I get through more! I'm up to 1ltr Water, 2 shakes and 1/2 cup Soup now. 2 GoldnGirl6677 and Fat2FiveK reacted to this
GoldnGirl6677 62 Posted April 13, 2014 I'm not there yet but I too was told to start when I'm on puréed diet. However it was recommended I take liquid multi Vitamin. I have at the moment pre-op in juice and it's tropical flavour. It also has extras like Biotin and B12 eye for hair skin and nails that I hope help alleviate Hair loss and assist my skin. This is the one I was recommended http://www.mylifespace.com.au/liquid-vitamins-men-women-australia/best-womens-liquid-multivitamin/ - maybe you have something similar in the US? Fat2FiveK 31 Posted April 13, 2014 My surgeon makes his patients wait 1 month post op That makes me feel so much better. I did manage to get one chewable down today without feeling too gross. The thought of three more today makes me want to barf.
