lylabelle 257 Posted April 12, 2014 So any of your successful sleevers recovering diet pepsi drinkers? I think it is the "you can't every have again" that is depressing pre-screened. I love the crisp taste of a cold diet pepsi. And through every diet (some successful losses, just never maintained), I was always glad that even if I was restricted to chicken breast I could enjoy a cold diet pepsi after work. I've gone off of before so I know I can... Is just. Well. You know.... Anyone know what I'm talking about? Were you anxious about it before sleeve but it's turned out to be no biggy? 1 Angi~2014 reacted to this
jbyler 20 Posted April 12, 2014 I was a major diet Pepsi drinker. At least a 2 liter a day could easily drink a case on a weekend. I just got the sleeve on 4/3/14 and so far it hasn't bothered me not having a diet Pepsi. I'm only a week out but so far so good. The night before my surgery my husband looked at me & said so is that your last one I said yep & I haven't wanted one since. Hopefully I can say the same a month from now 3 KMLG135, yolicious1 and Angi~2014 reacted to this
Ndipilato 50 Posted April 12, 2014 I was the same way with diet mt dew. I don't drink coffee and work overnights and used to drink at least 1L just at work! I easily drank 3-4L a day. I drank it right up til April 1st and was sleeved the 2nd. Just know there is hope. As I said sleeved April 2nd and haven't even thought about drinking a Dt dew let alone craved it! It will be ok . Just think of the "sacrifice" no Dt Pepsi for a healthier, skinnier, happier you!! 1 Angi~2014 reacted to this
greensleeve 457 Posted April 12, 2014 Once you have the surgery I don't think you will miss it. I used to drink at least four a day if not more. I stopped two weeks before surgery and that was difficult. But after surgery I can't imagine having anything fizzy. I'm burping and hiccuping and my stomach couldn't handle it. 4 The Data Doctor, Angi~2014, gourmetone and 1 other reacted to this
AvaFern 3,516 Posted April 12, 2014 My doctor cleared me for diet Pepsi about 6 weeks after surgery. I've been drinking it ever since and everything has been fine. I'm 7 months out. He did have me stop drinking it before surgery and of course right after, and the awesome thing was that the huge headache you get when you withdraw from caffeine was completely taken care of by all the drugs I had during the surgery, so it was the easiest quitting of diet Pepsi ever! 2 The Data Doctor and Angi~2014 reacted to this
lylabelle 257 Posted April 12, 2014 Oh I didn't know you are allowed anything carbonated ever! I don't mind not having it much at all, just the *never * thought was sad. Is fine without for 6 months before. I really think I'll be OK right after and for quite awhile, but a nice crisp one on a hot summer day next year will be much desired. Lol 1 Angi~2014 reacted to this
greensleeve 457 Posted April 13, 2014 I was told no carbonated drinks ever. It stretches out your sleeve. 5 Texasmeg, Angi~2014, Debi Amador and 2 others reacted to this

I was sleeved almost 6 months ago and I too was totally addicted to diet pepsi. I was told no carbonation ever. It's really not that difficult. I honestly don't even miss it. Everything changes post op after a while and things you thought you couldn't live without become no big deal, just a distant memory. Good luck 1 Angi~2014 reacted to this
m&m4ever 109 Posted April 13, 2014 I was told no carbonated drinks ever. It stretches out your sleeve. I was told the same thing. Carbonation can stretch the sleeve! I was sleeved July 29, 2013 and haven't had a diet coke since! I honestly don't miss it at all and I drank tons of it on a daily basis before. Even though it's diet, I really think it makes you crave sweet things. I really don't crave sweets since the surgery. I'm sure part of it is from the sleeve, but I really think cutting out the diet coke has helped the cravings too. 1 Angi~2014 reacted to this
Go4itLori 47 Posted April 13, 2014 My NUT told me to pour some soda in a Ziploc bag and seal it up. Then carry the bag around while you do your housework or go up and down the stairs a few times. The bag will start to expand and bloat because of the carbonation. This is the same reaction it will have on your sleeve. That image sticks with me when I think about having a Coke after I'm sleeved. I just won't take that chance. 8 Susan-031314, PinkPolkadot619, KMLG135 and 5 others reacted to this
greensleeve 457 Posted April 13, 2014 Plus soda leaches nutrients out of your body and we need all the nutrients we can get. 2 mollz007 and Angi~2014 reacted to this
She's_Sleeved 93 Posted April 13, 2014 I was a Dr. Pepper addict! I hate coffee and that was my go to for my morning caffeine fix. I would drink it throughout the day. I gave up soda a month before surgery so it wouldn't be a total shock to my body during the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. I am only 9 days out but have not even thought about wanting one. I am not even hungry yet! 1 Angi~2014 reacted to this
Sunnybaby 95 Posted April 14, 2014 I was a fairly big diet anything drinker. I am still pre-op and stopped drinking all carbonated drinks in January. I decided that since I wasn't going to be allowed to have carbonated drinks ever again that I would have one as a last hurrah. Well I took about 3 sips and it tasted gross. The carbonation burned my throat too. It's interesting how our tastes change when we stop eating/drinking a specific item. 1 Angi~2014 reacted to this
JeanZ_RN 378 Posted April 14, 2014 I too was told no carbonated beverages ever, but after several months of obeying I did try my fave -- diet Barq's root beer. I just took it very slowly. I've only had it twice since surgery, and although I did enjoy it and had no problems, I'm going to make it a very rare treat. 1 Angi~2014 reacted to this

I'm a year out, 179lbs down, enjoy an occasional diet coke and have the same restriction as ever. 3 Angi~2014, sleevexcited and dreamscometrue reacted to this
