Hmmmmm:canada: :canada: :canada: :canada: :canada: :canada:

Once again, this is the CANADIAN thread.....hence the "IRS" info will not apply.

Anyways...yes....this can be treated like any other medical expense that you claim (with Revenue CANADA).....of course you won't get nearly all of it back but every little bit helps, right?

Sounds like the answer is the same in both countries, though. :biggrin1:

AHHHHH Schinkes!!!!! I just always look at the posts but clicking on "New Posts" I NEVER look at what specific forum they are posted in....guess I've learned to start looking.

Oops, I suppose I'd better stay out of anything that says Canadian afore'n I put my size 11 foot back in my mouth.

Sorry...

:faint: :) :yield: :yield: :yield: :usa2:

I was told by my surgeon (who does not use insurance) that I can claim the medical expense on my taxes. I had to pay cash for my surgery and I'm certainly looking into the possibility.:biggrin1:

We claimed about 18,000- surgery, hotel, flights, and plus I had some chiropractic in there too. It made about a 3000 difference.

LOL @ FaithMD!

msrobby73: $3000, eh? That's pretty good....better than zippo, for sure! I've even started keeping track of all my trips to TO (2 hour drive) for my fills/de-fills etc.....you can claim the mileage. Hey, it all adds up!

Hmmm... I did not know that you could claim mileage on takes too... that is good to know.

Yup....I just found that out from my "accountant/investment advisor" so I will be claiming that stuff for 2006 and for this year on my taxes next year. So far, for 2006 and up to now for 2006 we have 24 trips to TO and/or Newmarket for medical appointments (ie. for both of us)...equating to 2625 km. I forget the mileage that you get but ....it will certainly add up and make a difference.

I do believe it is just if your appointments are out of the area you live in....but I'm not sure on that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
