Hi everyone! I was surfing the net and came across this board and signed up quickly. I just decided to have the procedure done yesterday. I'm a little scared....ok, a lot scared, but it is something that I want to do. I have done a lot of research on this and the bypass surgery and this just seemed like a no-brainer. I wish everyone the best of luck with their journeys!!!

I also have Dr. Engstrand! How did you find him - or were you referred? Thanx.

I actually found him through a web site. I was a little hesitant about it until I consulted my PCP and she told me he had a good rep. That made the ultimate decision for me. WHen are you having your surgery done or has it been set yet? I am just at the consult stage - I go on Sept 22nd. I am REALLY excited about this!! We will have to keep in touch and compare notes!!! How did you find out about him?

My PCP referred me to Dr. Engstrand. I've had the psych eval and stress test already, and on Monday I will have the dietary and physical therapy consultations. Hopefully all reports will get back to Dr. E quickly so they can send the pkg to the insurance company. Then we wait for approval before we can set a date for surgery. The waiting is so hard. Wish I had known about the lap band many years ago! This sounds almost too good to be true but apparantly it really works. This forum has been so educational; I feel very confident about what to expect - both good and not so good.

I am in the process of getting a new job and changing insurance providers. So, until I know what is going on there I am not going to call anyone yet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
