I Am 3 months out and have not had any bread, grain etc. I have had potatoes once. I am afraid if I incorporate them in it will slow my weight loss. Thoughts? If you eat them what do you have?

My nut. told me none of that until I reach goal cause it will just fill you up and not give you any Protein or nutrients you need for weight loss.

My nut also said NO carbs until a year out including any kind of retried Beans, bread or Pasta. My doc. Is very strict when it comes to eating. but I can't complain as I have lost 48 lbs in 2 1/2 months and just 16 lbs from onederland and 3 dress size smaller! it's all worth it!

Yes simple white carbs are not good. They can cause blood sugar to rise and they are refined sugars. Now complex carbs are part of your every day diet. I am going to post a site where you can look at the reasons why it is necessary to eat Complex carbs. You have to remember that your body takes everything you eat and turns it into sugar or glucose for nutrients....

So when someone says that it is a no no to eat carbs, They are starving your natural system. By eating complex carbs you are forming a complete Protein. That is what you are looking for...

I'm of the "fewer carbs the better" opinion. IMHO while complex carbs are certainly better than simple carbs, I believe they do slow you down in weight loss. I also don't believe, per many studies I have read, that we actually need carbs at all. Not to offend anyone who thinks differently....

This article lists 23 studies on low carb eating http://authoritynutrition.com/23-studies-on-low-carb-and-low-fat-diets/

That said, personally, I do eat Beans several times a week. And I eat vegetables and occasionally fruit. I skip breads, grains, Pasta, potato, corn, rice for the most part. Once in a blue moon I'll have a craving for something (a few days ago it was a grilled cheese sandwich, go figure), so I'll have it and be done with it. But overall, I feel that for me, low carb is the route I need to go for not only short term weight loss, but long term success at keeping the weight off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
