Hi - I am 4 months out today & down almost 70lbs... about a month ago i ended up in the ER from extreme pain behind my knee (most pain i have ever been in my life & I went though child birth!!) oh and my leg turned blue. (i had some pain for weeks leading up to this & thought that i had just over extended my knee since I was walking about 5 miles a day) Apparenly that is NOT the case...

I was in the hosptial for 3 days and now on blood thinners for 6 months - Dr said it was pretty serious... i am feeling good now, but my Primary Dr put me on restricted activities for 3 months... NOTHING till June 30th when i will have another ultra sound...

Needless to say i am really upset about this, i am not allowed to do more then a mile of walking a day & not all at once... nothing to get the heart beating fast...

no sit-ups, no weights - nothing... I know that this is just a "hiccup" but its really slowed my weight loss - has this happen to any one? they are saying even though at the time of the DVT i was post op 3 month - the blood clot still could have been caused from surgey...

Has anyone had a DVT? What types of things did you do to help your weight loss continue?

I know it must be frustrating to have your weight loss slowed, but you need to keep your priorities front and center. That DVT could have easily ended your life. The fact that it was caught and treated successfully without further, more severe complications, is something to be very thankful for.

Your little stomach is not going anywhere. I would suggest changing up your priorities to close adherence to the guidelines set by you Doc. You might not be so lucky a second time.

In other words......follow the Doc's instructions and take it easy. The weight will come off in due time.

Additional note: I do thank you for your post as I am about 3 months out and didn't figure there was any concerns from DVT's this far out from surgery. Due to your post, I will continue to pay close attention to any symtoms. Thank you.

My doctor has me doing shots daily for like 14 days to prevent blood clots. Did you do them?

Hi - I am following the doc orders to the letter... trust me this scared me!! I was told in the hospital I was very lucky... I know this is not a joking matter or something to take lightly by any means... I am just struggling within myself...

Aj Barefield: I was given shots while in the hospital for my sleeve... but not there after. I was in the hospital for 3 days with my sleeve. when I went back into the hospital for the DTV I was given shots as well as other blood thinners through the IV again I was in the hospital for 3 days. when I came home I had to give myself shots for 10days as well as take an oral blood thinner, but then switched me over to this new blood thinner and all seems better now on this new Rx.

Recycled: YES I didn't know this far out from surgery that it was possible to get a DVT either.. Rare... but still possible. and the scary part is I had this nagging pain behind my knee for about 3 weeks before it turned into this unbearable pain. I am VERY lucky... Thank you both for your comments - HAPPY FRIDAY to you both :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
