Day 6 post op. Feeling better each day and loving stepping on the scale. I am down 2 more pounds I'm 235 today. Pain is at a level 1 maybe less it just feels uncomfortable. I drove yesterday. My stomach feels a little bloated still. Drinking liquids not hard however the premier Proteins make me feel so full it's hard to drink them all. After drinking comes the stomach sounds. Hollow sounds lol. Also I've noticed the chicken broth goes down w no problem And it helps a lot w the gas and the bloated feeling. My incisions are still cover they don't hurt I can feel the little staples, sometimes they itch. I'm not hungry however when I see things I like I still wish I could eat them but I won't give in because I don't want to even think of the pain this may cause and I don't want to mess this up. I'm 237 and I go back to work on the 30th I want my pants to be loose. So my new mini goal is 230. Will update how this goes. :-)

Wow! Coming back from a weekend away & just logged in to see how your surgery went - reviewing all the posts it sounds like you are a WLS warrier girl -- fantastic that things have gone so well (all bloating/gas aside). Really happy for you. Thanks for all the information, I am six days away from my new beginning!

I think is UIC the one on W Taylor st. My surgeon was Dr. Enrique Elli . I had originally started at another facility Kane Center at Hoffman Estates IL but Alexian Brothers hospital was not approved (for this particular procedure) by my insurance. They required and IOQ (Institute of Quality) hospital, so after I had gone through everything I had to switch DRs. I found Dr. Elli and they did everything pretty fast and he did a great job with me, the hospital staff was nice and always attentive I have no complaints.

hi everyone! hope everyone is having a great time and recovering well! i am 7 days into my pre- op and i have lost 11 pounds. i am doing 3 shakes a day and 80+ ounces of clear fluids. i pee all day! its insane like i feel like im always running to the bathroom with the kiddos. I have 4 days til my surgery is anyone else experiencing irritability and crankiness? every soudn seems louder and smells seems more fragrant. i cook every night for the kids it is torture. last night they wanted to go to the movies so i took them and naturally i hold the youngest's popcorn bc she spills it everytime. the smell of popcorn was tempting me llol. I just learned i could season my broth with is nice but no salt. I am really anxious to just get the surgery oer with and start my healing. i feel like my body is going through such weird changes sometimes im freezing sometimes i feel like im in a suana. but usually always tired and low on patience haha.

good luck everyone!

Day 7 post op. My back is killing me. I didn't take my pain meds yesterday because my stomach doesn't really hurt much but today I took it. I had to take it because the back pain is horrible. I have two herniated disks so sleeping on my back is not easy. I was able to sleep on my sides a little yesterday, of course with a big body pillow (by the way these are great for after surgery). OK so the numbers ....down two more pounds I'm 233 lbs today. I'm so excited about the weight loss I don;t want it to stop, I look forward to stepping on the scale now and I was one that really never weighted myself. I think I'll do it daily for the first month but after that I'll go to once a week. My body is pear shaped most of my weight is around my hips and thighs, even at my biggest I always had a waist the stomach was the last area to gain and the first to go when I lost. And so today when I woke up I lifted my head and saw my toes without having to lift my body from the bed. Ohhhh what a great feeling. I'm gonna try my uniform later to see how it fits. (I'll let you all know later). I'm drinking diluted Zero Vitamin Water today. I've been doing pretty good with my liquids and I don't feel like I have a restriction with the liquids but the premier Protein really fills me up, tomorrow I go the blended stage and I'm allowed yogurt and cottage cheese and scrambled eggs I can't wait to see how it goes. I am now searching for easy ideas for the soft food stage. I have been taking my Vitamins, the other day I tried my Flintstone with Iron and my tummy did not like them, I had like a burning pain so for now I'm sticking to the samples I got from my NUT they are Bariatric Advantage Vitamins and these don't cause discomfort. I am thinking of doing my before and after album, I hated having my picture taken after I gained weight I was always hiding behind others, so as soon as I see a little difference in the body I will start posting. Well talk to you guys later. I hope my info helps in any way, I know it helped me to read how others were doing. I can honestly say I am soooo happy I did it.

Congrats. Hang in there with the pre op diet, was for sure the most difficult part for me. The funny thing was that they never even weighted me when I went for my surgery LOL... At the beginning I had terrible headaches and I did cheat on my 7th day with a big plate of mac and cheese. Just hang in there it's totally worth it. After surgery my advise to you or anyone is: If you can, try to stay off the heavy meds like the morphine, I never took mine because I knew they would upset my stomach and make me dizzy and If I was to get up and walk around I did not want to be dizzy etc...Good luck to you.

Day 8 . blended stage. Im 232 lost one pound. And this new paranoia of what if I stop losing has come over me. Breakfast I had eggbeaters equivalent to 1 egg. And 1/2 cup of yogurt I should've had 1/4cup but I read the instructions wrong. It took me a longgg time to eat this and my stomach felt full. Later lunch was 1/4 low fat Peanut Butter. Afternoon dinner 1/4 cottage cheese and 1/4 sugar free applesauce. In between my liquids and 1 Premier Protein that takes me a whole day to drink. I think I need more Protein but have no idea how to get it in. Not bloated and no pain. So far so good.

I could go back to work now, because my work requires no lifting. However I didn't want to go to work right away because I had no idea how my recovery would be and also because I didn't want to be going through the food stages at work. I rather be at home when I'm trying new foods because you never know how your stomach is going to react to them. For example (TMI coming) that little bit of peanut butter I had yesterday sent me straight to the bathroom. LOL... You are almost there How is the pre op diet going?

Day 9 Post op....So excited I'm down 2 more pounds. 230 lbs as of today. I was afraid I would stop losing because I was introducing more food, I was scared to step on the scale. Truth is I'm still scared that it will stop, and I know there will be stalls and days where I won't lose and because of that I must stop weighing myself everyday. I'm still trying to learn the signals of when my body is full, today I started eating and looked for the signals and sure enough after the second bite (incredible right?) I was getting that feeling of fullness and then after the third the burps. I waited for a while and took my last bite and after another 10minutes I started on my 1/4 cup of yogurt (yogurt goes down easy). I am so full. I tried my uniform yesterday and the pants are loose and the top too. I hate exercise but this surgery has given me motivation. Everyday I'm trying to walk a little if I can't get my 30 minutes in which is my goal at least I do half. Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. And to everyone that is in the pre-op stages hang in there and follow the Drs instructions to the teeth. I still crave food and when I cook for my kids I still wish I could have some but somehow knowing that doing that might mess up everything stops me from even trying that and that I don't want to imagine being sick. I have been fortunate with little pain and no nausea, dizziness or vomiting and I want to keep it that way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
