Do you have to make yourself eat?

Recommended Posts

I haven't had a fill yet and I am not very hungry. 15 days post op.. The little I am eating I'm making myself do it. I really worry that I am not getting enough calories. After workout I felt really nauseous and nervous tonight. I ate a lil tuna and had a Protein Shake. That didn't really help so I ended up taking a nausea pill. I also think trying to get in all this Water making me not want to eat either.

It's your body telling you it wants to go back to the good ole days of over-eating. Don't listen to it. This is normal. Your body thinks you're trying to starve it. As long as you're getting in about 800 calories or so, you should be fine. Your body has plenty of reserves to survive.

I'm getting 600-ish most days.

Still, you're fine. Another week and you'll complain you're eating too much :o

The swelling hasn't gone down yet most likely and once that happens, you'll be able to eat too much.

BTW-I lived on a 500-600 calories/day diet for 3 months about 15 years ago. So, make sure you're taking your Vitamins and all should be fine.

If it helps, I'm almost 6 months out with no fills, and I often have to remind myself to eat. My cravings have started creeping back in, but my body lets me know it's hungry in different, more subtle ways. It's interesting.

I have a routine that my nutritionist and I have worked out. I eat small meals throughout the day. I don't track my calories religiously, but I estimate I'm around 1,000 most days. When I was first banded, I was lucky to get in 600 each day.

As 2muchfun says, be sure to take your Vitamins. And make sure you stay hydrated. (I wasn't so good yesterday and I felt horrible at the end of the night...drink your water!)

Take this time to figure out the new signals your body is going to give you.

You are going to do great things :)

Early postOp it was hard for me to get 600-700 calories in, as 'hunger' was non-existent.

Enjoy the sensation, as soon enough you will develop an altered and much better sense of when to eat and how much.

Sometimes even literally ONE BITE is plenty.

Don't be alarmed about being 'not hungry'. I spent most of my preOp life trying to become 'not hungry' by striving to 'get full' and that was the wrong approach.

Strive to get your Rational Mind in control of your old habits and erroneous 'hunger beasts'. We can train our belly beast once we realize who is in charge!

cheers on your journey

I enjoyed the lack of appetite immediately post-op. For some people the hunger returns immediately but for others it's a nice taste of what it's like later when the band is adjusted properly. As others have said this is a great time to work on band-friendly habits, like taking teeny bites and waiting -- really listening in to your body. For me this was such a different experience of food as I was such a shoveler. Needed to work on that habit quite a bit.....

Oh, I meant to say that my doctor had no Protein or calorie goals for me during this time. Obviously my body has the fat stores it needs to carry me through the lean times. Maybe this was the big famine it was storing up for all those years, lol.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
