gastricsleever 259 Posted April 10, 2014 So after my surgery, I was told I should stop drinking 5 minutes before eating and wait 45-60 minutes after eating before drinking. My question is does that include Snacks? So if I eat a string cheese for a snack, I must wait 45 mins to drink? I'm wondering what your surgeons/nutritionists have told you? joatsaint 2,814 Posted April 10, 2014 My doc never got that specific. I've always just followed the 30 minute rule - no drinking 30 minutes before or after eating anything. The 30 minute rule is meant to keep food in your stomach longer. You might experiment and see how long you stay satisfied after a snack with and without drinking. 2 roses1223 and skinnygirlwithin reacted to this
CraveUrBrains 12 Posted April 10, 2014 i was also told a half hour before and after, but like already mentioned its meant so that you don't wash your food through.
debknauss 24 Posted April 10, 2014 30/60 rule for me, but occasionally take a sip of Water. But generally I follow the rule.
septappt 74 Posted April 10, 2014 I would imagine that would include a snack ! You want to keep the Protein in your stomach as long as you can

Seela 1,187 Posted April 10, 2014 It doesn't specify Breakfast, dinner or snack. It specified before and after EATING. for me at almost 6 months out I drink up to eating then drink nothing for 30-60 minutes after.
jess9395 5,449 Posted April 10, 2014 Mine says 30/30 before and after EATING so that would include Snacks for sure

SuperFab 689 Posted April 10, 2014 I couldn't drink after eating anything if I wanted to unless I want it to come back up. For an hour or more. I must be slow to digest.
Bombs 353 Posted April 11, 2014 15/45 for me. I really am diligent.
Megaloo 4 Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) I'm so thirsty all the time!! It's like torture to wait. Good suggestions tho. Thanks! Edited April 11, 2014 by Megaloo
GriffinSabine 34 Posted April 14, 2014 You guys that are so diligent - which is impressive - do you not even have a single sip after eating? To swish your mouth or anything? I always do, and I am two months out. Worried this is going to be my biggest struggle.
wynblade 14 Posted April 14, 2014 The timer on my watch has become a wonderful and helpful thing. I'm not super diligent about the before time but I am about the after time, and sometimes when I'm thirsty I am counting down those seconds until it reaches 30min!
