News article: Slow metabolism hindering weight loss? Genetic 'switch' may be answer

Recommended Posts

Interesting article from FoxNews: http://www.foxnews.com/health/2014/04/09/new-genetic-switch-technique-may-lead-to-accelerate-metabolism/

After reading it I was curious about ASOs -- antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) technology -- so I searched for that term and found a Wikipedia entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisense_therapy. Reading it I learned that ASOs are not a specific class of medications.

The whole idea sounds very promising!

I'll be deader than dog poo by the time they figure this one out but I agree, it looks promising. I'd imagine drugs will be involved?

"Ironically, a so-called “fast” metabolism is considered to be an inefficient one, Kahn noted."

Makes sense! Fast metabolizers didn't live long 25,000 years ago. Now me or even us, we ruled before 10,000 years ago. Lucky us, we developed the gene that makes us store energy so we lived longer. Yeah, lucky us

Fascinating and promising indeed. The fact that ASO's are already FDA approved may allow them to move to clinical trials much faster than would otherwise be the case.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
