:help: I had my surgery 4 days ago and things seem to be going great, but I have been getting nauseated in the evenings. I have been strictly on liquids and I have a feeling that it could be my pain meds. I called my doc and he gave me suppositories (sp) and that has been a true joy! lol. My main concern is if when I am wretching with nothing coming up if my band is going to slip. I am so scared! Anyone who can respond who has been thru similar thing would be greatly appreciated! Any tips to prevent the nausea would be welcomed as well! Thanks so much!!

I've heard Ginger Tea is good for nausea. I got some just in case but haven't needed it. What about good ol' Pepto Bismol?

I was very nauseous for about 4 days and could barely tolerate Water but I did not heave at all. I just refrained from anything other than water.

Jennifer - Are you better now? If you're taking hydrocodone or vicodin that definitely can make you nauseous.

I feel much better now, thanks for asking...I do believe it was the liquid pain meds. (Oxycodone) I haven't taken any for 2 days now and have not had one bout of nausea! Yeah...I was getting worried! The pain hasn't been that bad either. The port incision is the only one that gives me a bit of a problem. Thanks for the advice!!

I'm six days post op and doing well with my recovery, but then my son and DIL come over when they haven't been feeling well from the stomach flu! I'm now worried about having to deal with that and running to the doctor for an antinausea shot or something. What a pain!

I experience extreme nausea about 4 days post op and ended up having to get a prescription for anti nausea medication. It worked a treat and I was able to stop taking it after 48 hours. I think it's a side effect of having the stomach interfered with during the surgery.

Jennifer,

Glad you are feeling better! It was definitely the pain meds. I felt awful for the one day I took meds. Since then I've been taking children's tylenol (when needed) and feel great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
