The Church fell through as they decided since they are a new, but growing congregation, that they'd like to reserve their space for dedicated church related programs. With that said, I'm going to start hunting around, and calling places again.

Worse case scenario, if people are up for it, so that we don't lose our momentum, we could always try to meet at a local community park. There's a place called EB Rains, right across the street from the Northglenn Police Dept & Community Center: East side: West of 117th Ave. & Lincoln St.; West side: East of City Hall, 11701 Community Center Dr. in Northglenn. http://www.northglenn.org/ebrains

Let me know if anyone wants to try to meet up there just to get things moving. This is a big park area with a few sitting areas with a Gazebo, and a lovely lake we can always walk around once or twice. I'm just throwing this out there while I continue my search for a free meeting place.
Thanks!
Fran

EB Rains park sounds good to me! It's right off I25 and my daughter just got a job at Jamba juice right there on the corner! Keep me posted.

My son used to call it Lobster Lake back when it was called Webster lake. He some problems with his Ws.

There's a top notch skateboard park there now so I think we should all bring our skateboards ;) :P (then someone should call a paramedic)

While I'm working on finding a monthly meeting location, let's plan on getting together by the paddle boat rental place, near the main entrance at E.B. Rain's on Saturday, June 7th at 9am.

I will post a reminder a few days before & I'll either have a silly sign or let everyone know what color shirt I have on so you know you're approaching the right person, LOL.

I am pre-op (two more weeks!) but would love to participate in a Denver/ Denver Metro area Local Chapter!

SparkleCat, who is your surgeon? I have Dr.Snyder. I'm going from lapband to bypass. I hope to go in early June.

Mishka - sent you the invite for FB. It's OK if you can't make the first one. I'll keep everyone posted as things progress. Just going to take several more phone calls, but we'll get something figured out, even if we have to keep meeting at E.B. Rains until we do :)

Congrats on surgery!

Irisheyes - My original surgeon was Dr Snyder for lapband, but my insurance changed to Kaiser & my revision was done through Dr Hussein. I liked him, lots of energy!

My surgeon was Dr Thomas Brown and I was very pleased!

They have monthly support groups on Thursdays which, unfortunately, is the day I usually work late so I haven't been able to make it

I had a friend who used Dr Snyder and she loved him....his office never returned my calls though :(

I wanted to use Snyder too but I could never get the office to return my calls or emails either. After waiting for 6 weeks I went to Dr Frank Chae. When I got home from Chae's office Snyder's office called. I told her I had already scheduled my surgery with a different doctor and she just said OK and hung up. I hear good things about Snyder but his support staff is lame.jmo

Agreed....I sent emails, called and got nothing. I am glad I eventually went with Dr Brown, support staff is wonderful and my surgery went as well as it possibly could...very pleased

And I still haven't heard from Dr Snyders office...

May have found a meeting location @ The Westminster Library off of 112th Avenue. Only minor issue is that there is a cost of $15 per month for groups under 10. They do offer "Study Rooms" for groups of 6 or less, but I'm not sure we'd exactly qualify for that free room. I will, however, ask.

Just need to know how many people would be interested. I'm looking at trying to do this the 2nd Wednesday of each month. In this case, Wednesday, June 11th around 6pm.

Please let me know how many takers we have. Thanks!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
