Just wondering if anyone has any experience with popcorn. I am a long way from trying it but it is something I love.

Thinking it is going to be a no no.....

I don't have any problems eating popcorn. I have it a few times per year....usually at a movie theater.

I'm almost 3 mths out and I tried alittle of it the other night...it didn't hurt or anything...but was worried about eating too much...so I stuck to having just a few pieces. hope you at least try it to see if you can handle it or not. I know i get very fearful of certain foods myself after reading these posts. so at least try it...then you'll have your own answer-that is once you are at that stage!!! best wishes to ya!!

You won't know what you can/cannot tolerate until you try it. Don't presume anything especially if you are recently banded. Having said that, while treats are not off limits, they are just that...treats...meant to be eaten occasionally so you don't feel deprived.

When I go out to dinner, I always order dessert. I only eat one or two forkfuls but I get that 'something sweet' in and it satisfies.

I eat popcorn a couple of times a week, without issue. I love it, and it takes care of my intermittent need for "eatertainment" :D

I've had a handful of popcorn a couple of times since being banded and haven't expierenced any issues, but like others have said this is something you should "Treat" yourself with and not make it a regular occurance. It's one of those sliders so my recommendation would be to decide how much you're going to eat, measure it out and throw the rest away.

For the first couple years postOp, I couldn't stand the thought of popcorn. Eventually I was able to try a little with no problem.

Now I can eat a cup or 2, and do so every few months. While one of my preOp favorites, like many such 'sports food' I just really don't have the desire for it very often.

I have popcorn several times a week. It is my favorite filler for that hungry feeling that you know is mostly mental. I like the white kernals because they are only 20 calories a cup if it is air popped. I usually just have a little salt or salt substitute on it, but every now and then I'll go crazy and spray "I can't believe its not butter" on it.

I also enjoy popcorn when I need that munch-down kind of fix. I chew it to a pulp and like the nosiness of the whole thing. We use an air-popper and high-quality organic kernels. The movie theater popcorn just melts in the mouth without the satisfying crunch I'm seeking and it seems like too "white" of a food for me.

Discussed pop corn at my support group this AM in Seattle. I have a problem with it. It is a binge food if I am not careful. I pop regular pop corn about 3 tablespoons in a brown lunch bag in the microwave for about 2.4 seconds and it is nice and soft and melts before I get it all chewed. Have to careful how many times a week I do this. Could do it 7 evenings per week while I watch METV, a channel that shows old TV and movies. That Perry Mason, what a guy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
