Mexico Bariatric Center - Dr. Lopez Day 1

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I thought I would do a day by day review of my experience in Tijuana through Mexico Bariatric. Everyday I'll do a recap with pictures =) I thought it would be very helpful for people.

Background- surgery scheduled with Dr. Lopez on April 8th and traveling with my husband.

Yesterday we arrived in San Diego and immediately called Victor our driver. Victor is a bit difficult to understand on the phone, but he is aware of this and very patient with repeating himself. Our plane arrived early, so we had to wait maybe 15 min. Victor is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area of San Diego and Tijuana- if there is extra time he will even stop along the way and show you some of the tourist attractions. We tipped Victor $10 and then $2 for the guy who carried our bags up to our rooms at the hotel.

Once we got to the hotel, Tatiana (who is the coordinator for Dr. Lopez I think) greeted us at the lobby. She gave us information about the next day, hospital forms, and we checked into our rooms. The hotel is beautiful, the swimming pool is great and there is even a jacuzzi! My husband and I tried out both yesterday.

As for food... for your companion- I suggest straying outside the hotel for more authentic, cheaper food. Right after we arrived, we went to a restaurant down the street. You can't miss it, it's shaped like a giant sombrero. There are a few people there that speak English and my husband thought his meal was amazing... not going to lie... I licked a piece of his chorizo lol. They even have broth available- it was a bit too salty, but not bad! Total with tip was $17. Also, next door is a little shop that sells drinks and snacks- much cheaper than the hotel. Patients get free broth/ ice pops/ Water at the hotel, but for our companions go here to save money. Or anywhere else outside the hotel. We bought four bottles of Water for $1.60.

This morning we are meeting Tatiana in the hotel lobby to head to the hospital... I'm getting nervous about surgery. Look for the next post about day two!! So far though, we think everything has been wonderful. Very professional and organized =)

Sorry for the delay with the pictures- the wifi here is good, but not great. Also, feel free to ask any questions!

Hi Joanna! I will be there Friday. Please keep me posted. I'm so excited. This is not my first surgery in Mexico. The first time I was treated like royalty. Have heard nothing but good stuff about Lopez. Thanks for the details and the pics!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
