cant stop eating to fast.....

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months out. Ive lost 75 lbs and I am feeling great. About 20 lbs from my goal weight and everything is going well, no coffee, no alcohol, and following all the rules accept 1. I still eat pretty fast. I dont eat much and I am eating very healthy but eating fast is just a habit I cant break. Does anyone know why we have to eat slow? Is it because we will stretch our our stomachs again or just so we dont get intergestion or something? I dont want to screw this up.

I'm right there with you, my friend! I have a hard time with this too. But baby utensils have helped me a great deal. But on mornings when I'm running late for work (most mornings, unfortunately!), I struggle with this. There's a good article on the subject right here on this site:

Be well…

I use the Eat Slower app on my phone - set it to a 45 second interval. It dings to let me know when to take the next bite. Simple concept but it really works for me.

I struggle with the same thing... I think I'm slowing down...and try to chew slower and then I don't concentrate and eat faster... I loaded that app, need to USE it now!

Try chop sticks. Unless you are very adept at using them they will slow you down.

I've been sleeved for almost 2 years and when I eat fast I just can't get as much food down as i can when I sit and eat slowly. I consider this a win do what works for you

Reasons why sleevers should eat slowly:

  • You can get more food in when you eat slowly. That means your meal lasts you longer through the day and you won't get hungry so soon afterwards. You will also be able to get in more Protein in a meal and may not need to supplement protein with Snacks. You also may not feel the need for snacks at all if you get in enough food at a meal.
  • Eating fast gives your stomach less time to figure out what's going on and whether it is full or not. When you eat slowly it has plenty of time to send you signals to stop eating before you are too full. This helps avoid stretching your sleeve or experiencing discomfort after eating meals.

I also recommend the phone app Eat Slower. I used it for months until I learned to slow down. Sometimes eating fast still creeps up on me. I have to stay vigilant.

I have seen people with sleeves graze on a plate of food for hours. Eating slowly isn't necessarily the best thing if it is going to set you up to over eat. Give yourself an allotted time to eat a meal. I don't do anything past 15-20 minutes. Any longer than that I consider grazing..

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
